"Okay, if I ever found one of those in my house I would move and leave everything behind." He joked, shaking his head. If he found any kind of insect except for a wayward ant or spider in his house he'd probably move, he wasn't a fan of the creepy crawlies. He chuckled at her comment on Lottie, he could see that personality from here. "Well, a handful, two of my sisters have about six between them, well one has five and one has one." He chuckled, thinking of Moira and Steph, Moira had always wanted a big family and Markus was kind of surprised Steph had a child at all with how much she worked, but then again she didn't let anything hold her back.

Gwen laughed, “I think if you aren’t in, Africa? You’re safe from finding one. Unless it’s a random one somehow?” She wasn’t sure ho a dung beetle could show up in your house in Maine. On some cargo on a ship from across the sea? She stared at him, unable to believe how many he said. “I can’t imagine having six nieces and nephews.” She felt a little sad at Lottie not getting to know any cousins of her own, only having her as family. “I’d love to have a big family.” She smiled, wanting siblings for Lottie, wanting her to feel loved and safe in a family.

"Well they can all stay in Africa and away from my house." Markus joked, smiling at a few memories of his nieces and nephews. "It's busy, I'll tell you that much, I don't know how my sisters do it." He shook his head, knowing there was no way he could have done it if he had decided to keep Rosco. "A big family can be fun but also full of gossip and too many practical jokes to count."

Gwen chuckled, “I agree with that, I don’t know what I’d do if I found one. Call the police??” She wasn’t sure they could help at all with it. Gwen wondered if it was busier with more kids, because Lottie often felt like a lot sometimes. “Gossip? Families gossip?” She asked with a laugh, wondering if foster homes and families were actually the same, but none of the foster parents ever made her feel welcomed.

"Maybe animal control? That seems a bit more appropriate." Markus suggested, wondering if they would take it that seriously, thought technically it would be considered an invasive species. "They gossip more than they should, but what do you do when majority of them are women who like to talk all the time?" He joked, knowing it sounded a little stereotypical but it was true considering his family.

Gwen laughed, “I don’t know, I’m going with sanitation,” She smirked, wondering if she was gifted with the dad jokes since Lottie’s father wasn’t around. “Do they gather in the kitchen and talk in hush hush voices?” she asked, remembering each time she came home long after everyone else, she’d sometimes find her foster parents, social worker, and whoever else wanted to tag along, talking in quiet tones until she walked in. It always meant the same thing, she was changing houses again.

Markus laughed, shaking his head at her joke. "Wow, that was a good one." He teased and thought back to all the times he'd caught his family members gathered around the table or in the kitchen talking about someone or something. "Oh yeah and go quiet as soon as you walk in too so you know they're talking about you." He said, knowing there was a lot of talk about him and his brothers and how they could all be single. Well, Beck wasn't much of a surprise, but the rest of them, especially Charlie were a shock.

Gwen closed her eyes at the memory, glad that Lottie wouldn’t know what that felt like, minus the few ladies at the jail who still judged you, but they were still stuck behind bars. She opened her mouth to respond when Lottie ran over.
“MOM! Can we keep him?” She asked, eyeing Markus from the side, but she hugged Buckly to her chest as she looked back at her mom for the answer.
“Sorry sweetie, his names Bucky, and he belongs to him, Markus.” She looked to Markus with an apology face, hoping Lottie wouldn’t go back to her funky mood now, and blame him for it.

Markus saw how her eyes close, as if she were reliving a memory. He was about to ask her if she was alright when Lottie ran up asking about Bucky. He gave the girl a sweet smile, "I'm sorry but I would be really sad with Bucky, he's my best friend, but he seems to like you a whole lot, maybe next time you come to the park I can bring him so you two can play?" He offered, hoping that would keep the mood light.

Gwen held her breath as she waited for Lottie to answer, the little girl looking like she as thinking, and Gwen guessed she as trying to formulate a plan. “Don’t worry, Markus has promised to meet us at the park with Bucky again, she eyed Markys from the side, Lottie still not letting the dog go. “Tomorrow?” she shrugged her shoulders, knowing it as short notice but it as just a park visit, she’d understand if he couldn’t.

Markus found himself holding his breath as he waited for the little girls answer, not wanting to ruin her day. He looked over at Gwen and flashed a smile, hoping it was convincing to Lottie. "We will definitely be here tomorrow," he said, looking down at Bucky who he swore was glaring at him.

Gwen felt like hours were passing as they waited for Lottie to respond, she knew it as only seconds, but sometimes with her child time slowed way down.
“Okay. I guess.” Lottie said, holding out Bucky to Markus, a little sad smile on her face, but she was still in a better mood than when they arrived at the park.
Gwen sighed, standing up and holding her hand out to Lottie. “Time to go sweetie.” She turned to Markus with a big smile. “Thank you for letting Bucky and Lottie play. See you tomorrow then.” She felt a little happy at the thought of having someone other than her seven-year-old.

Markus breathed a sigh of relief as he took back Bucky. "Alright, tomorrow, I'll bring some toys so you guys can play fetch or something." He smiled as Bucky stretched up, licking Markus's cheek. Markus looked over at Gwen and smiled back. "Anytime, we'll see you then."

Lottie’s eyes lit up and she was bouncing around Gwen, talking about tomorrow, and the plans she had with Bucky. “Till tomorrow then.” she said, waving to Markus before heading towards the high school, looking over her shoulder one more time.
It didn’t take long for Lottie and Gwen to reach the high school. She unlocked the door to the main office building and found her way to her new office. “Now, I want you to sit her and draw me some pictures to decorate my office.” She pulled out plain paper and coloring books she had stashed here when she dropped off a box of things and poured out crayons for Lottie to color. Once she made sure Lottie would be set up, she closed the door and headed down the hallway to Aleah’s office, glad it wasn’t that far. She saw the door was opened, but didn’t step in, knocking on the opened door. “Hello.” She smiled, her mind thinking back to Markus for some reason.

Markus smiled and waved back then scratched Bucky behind the ears before setting him down and continuing their walk. Aleah hummed softly as she worked around her office, preparing for the school year to start and going through some old files as heavy rock music played off her phone. She was in the middle of tapping a folder on her desk to even out the papers when Gwen knocked on the door. She looked up, smiling back, "hey, welcome, where's your rugrat?" She asked teasingly, knowing Gwen brought her daughter along from their conversation when scheduling their meeting.

Gwen smiled and stepped into Aleah’s office, “She’s just coloring some pictures back in my office,” She had found that if her daughter’s pictures were around the room, students opened up a little easier sometimes. “You said you had some paperwork for me?” She figured it was the usual paperwork you always fill out for a job, something that would take a few minutes for most people, but Gwen sometimes had trouble filling out, but that’s what Google was for.

"Aw, cute." Aleah smiled back, thinking that Gwen was pretty lucky to have a kid who was able to be left alone without making a mess. "Oh yes," she said as she got up, taking the file in her hand to a cabinet and popping it inside the drawer then went over to another, frowning slightly until she found the folder she was looking for and brought it back to her desk. "Go ahead and sit down. I don't think this will take too long, I went through and highlighted where you needed to sign and initial." She explained as she sat down, opening up the file and setting it in front of Gwen.

“I’m sure when she gets tired of making art she’ll find her way down here,” Gwen as sure of it, Lottie had the attention span of a goldfish right now, nothing could keep her attention for longer than ten minutes. She sat down in front of Aleah’s desk and took the folder, opening it to find she had done just that. “Thank you.” She smiled softly, immediately getting to work on signing everything.

Aleah laughed and nodded, "luckily she won't have that far to go." She said and leaned back a little in her seat. "You're welcome, I know paper work can be really tedious so I try to make it as easy as possibly." She explained then flashed a smile, "and I won't deny that's because it'll make life easier for me too." Aleah joked as she reached over, shaking the mouse of her computer so it turned on and opened up a file, frowning slight.

Gwen chuckled, “I love when life is easy,” it hadn’t been for a long time for her, but she was starting to realize she had done that to herself. She wished she had learned the lesson a long time ago, but it was a blessing in disguise, since she wouldn’t have had Lottie if she did most likely. She saw a slight frown on Aleah’s face and she worried it was something from her past. She’d been able to work with no issues of her time in Jail, but she couldn’t hold it against people if it turned them away. “Is something wrong with my paperwork?” She asked, hoping it wasn’t an invasion of her to ask.

"Me too." Aleah laughed, though her life now could be considered easy there had still been times where she had wanted to give up and throw in the towel. She scrolled through her computer but paused, looking over at Gwen and laughed a little. "Oh no, I just saw that there's a lot of last minute applications for potential students, apparently people don't pay attention to deadlines these days." She shrugged, knowing she'd still look through them and pick out some to forward to the committee who decided who could be accept since there were still some openings left.

“That sounds concerning, the late applications that is,” Gwen frowned herself a little, wondering just how many students Aleah considered was a lot. She wasn’t the only counselor on staff, but she always worried about there not being enough teachers for every student, having gone to a public school that held classrooms of forty or more students at a time. Twenty kids was a lot to handle, she didn’t understand why they tried cramming so many into one room for one teacher to handle by themself.

"It happens every year," Aleah shook her head, "there's always a couple stragglers and the parents either plead their case or their rich enough to make a sizable donation for an overlook." She rolled her eyes, "ultimately it's up to the committee who gets approved but I'd be lying if I said some people didn't know how to sway the results in their favor."

Gwen felt her stomach turn to stone at the thought that the rich could just buy their way into school, knowing that couldn’t happen to Lottie, but she would work hard to get hat she needed. “I guess if they donate so students have more options and chances…” She said, though it still didn’t sit well with her.

"They can donate all they want," Aleah said, sitting up a little in her seat as she continued to look at her screen, "but that won't stop me from advocating for the kids who should be here. Even if that means extra time reading all the applications." She joked a little and smiled, wanting to lighten the mood a little.

Gwen smiled and went back to signing her paperwork, but before she could sign the next line, Lottie ran past the door. Gwen waited, knowing Lottie saw them in here, but probably had too much steam going to slow down. Sure enough Lottie ran back in, holding a picture of her interpretation of Bucky. “Mommy mommy! I drew the puppy, see?” Lottie held up the photo for her and Aleah to see. Gwen looked down at the picture and did her best not to laugh, knowing she wouldn’t be able to draw Bucky well either. She loved it still, since Lottie had drawn it, “Aww, are you going to color it in?” “Yes, but I wanted to show you.” Ignore the Pom on the left XD

Aleah saw movement out of the corner of her eye, peering around Gwen but saw nothing, getting a bit of an eerie feeling like she was in a scary movie where a random shadow figure would dart in and out of sight. She was about to open her mouth when a little girl finally ran into the office, presenting a picture to Gwen. Aleah was able to see the picture too and smiled, doing her best not to laugh either. "That's a wonderful picture you drew."

Lottie instantly hid a little behind Gwen’s back when Aleah spoke, but she was never a shy child. “It’s the puppy I got to play with this morning. A nice man let me carry him around the playground and said tomorrow he’d bring toys to play fetch!”
“Lottie has been wanting a dog for the last two years,” Gwen explained, having talked with Lottie every time at Christmas or her birthday, that a dog wasn’t feasible at the moment. “Hoping to get on in a couple of years.” She wasn’t sure the exact year, but she would find a way eventually to give Lottie what she wanted.

Aleah didn't take it personally when Lottie from her, offering a smile. Even her nieces and nephews got shy but granted she hadn't seen the younger ones in a while. It was still too painful to go back to her home town to see them. "Really?" She responded, perking up a little, "that sounds super fun! I've been thinking about getting a dog too." She said, though she was taking her time in making that decision, knowing it was a big commitment, but it also didn't help that her ex-fiance had kept the dog they had gotten together a few months into their relationship. "It is a big commitment to get a dog," she said, looking over at Gwen, "but pets can be a lot of fun."

Gwen nodded, agreeing with Aleah about the dog being a big responsibility. “Feeding, walking, even cleaning up after them.” She didn’t want to think about the vet bills, if it was a dog that had to be groomed every few weeks like the Pomeranian they met, it was a lot to consider, and she just wanted Lottie to be a little older and more responsible before that. “I’ve offered to get her a fish to start.” She grimaced.
Lottie frowned, “Fish are boring. They just swim around.” She pouted, though they were pretty to look at.
