Vaya shifted a little as she worked, pulling her knee up to her chest after opening her laptop and getting to work on the powerpoint, having enough of a grasp of their information to get a bare bones outline ready then started filling in the spots she could with what they had. She rested her chin on her knee as she worked, slipping into a rhythm until Hayden slid his notebook over to her. She tilted her head and looked at it, "enough to get some of this done." She said, turning her laptop so he could see the Wheel of Fortune themed presentation that she had managed to put together so far.

Hayden watched as Vaya turned her laptop towards him, smiling when he recognized the Wheel of Fortune set up, and if he could talk, he’d say he was impressed. Instead, he nodded his head and clapped his hands lightly, pulling his notebook back towards himself.
‘I can make cards with the letters with tape? Maybe stick them on as people guess?’
Though he wasn’t sure how people would guess, thinking they could just yell out letters, but that might get difficult if everyone was screaming out a letter.

Vaya grinned, "that's a great idea! Maybe we could have the word be the reason the plague spread so far." She offered, mind already churning at ways they could make this into a game, she didn't care if it gave them extra points or not, she wanted to have fun. She felt her stomach rumble and reached over, opening up the box of cupcakes from her work and pulled a chocolate one out, doing a little happy dance that had her wiggling back and forth as she peeled off the wrapper.

Hayden knew he could get started on making the cards, as long as they figured out how big he’d need to make them. He thought about how he’d keep it all organized, betting it would be best to use a storage system. He was lost deep in his thoughts about this until some movement brought him back, the sound of plastic crinkling, and he picked up a sweet smell. He turned to see the container of cupcakes, having forgotten them completely while studying and reached for the second one, peeling the liner, and then ripped the top part of the cupcake. He flipped the bottom part on top of the icing to make a cupcake sandwich.

Vaya was taking another bite of her cupcake but paused when she saw what Hayden did, a slight smirk crossing her face. "Good thing that one doesn't have a filling or else that could have been really busy." She joked, having seen such a mess happen before at the shop, she had tried to warn people before hand but half the time people didn't listen and ended up regretting it.

Hayden stopped mid bite as she talked about filling, not realizing cupcakes could have filling, but h shrugged, finishing the bite and pulled his notebook closer to him, struggling slightly, but finally slide it over to Vaya.
‘Even if it had filling, just adds to it.’
He’d probably make a huge mess, but he would still eat it and just clean it up afterwards.

Vaya laughed softly after reading what he was writing and shook her head, "you say that until chocolate drips all over your fingers." She teased, "or sprinkles." She added before taking another bite of her cupcake, nose scrunching slightly. "I probably should have put less mint in this." She said mostly to herself, a cupcake could be perfect but she'd always find something lacking.

Hayden shrugged again, figuring it would still be delicious, though sprinkles might fall everywhere, which would get annoying. He finished off his cupcake and sipped his water, thinking about the flavor of the cupcake. He frowned though when he thought about the words she said.
‘You make cupcakes??’

Vaya finished her cupcake before looking at his note and nodded, "yeah, I work at the bakery in town part time. My specialty is cupcakes but I'll make whatever they need me to." She smiled, finding having the job kept her mind off of things when she wasn't at school and had nothing else to do.

Hayden was always shocked when he met a classmate who worked, mostly because this school seemed to be full of students with parents that had money to burn. His parents didn’t force him to get a job, but he also worried about being unable to communicate easily, he figured it would make this harder.
‘Do you like having a job?’

Vaya nodded, "I do, it keeps me out of trouble." She joked, really it helped her keep a very small social circle, not that she really had one to begin with. After everything that had happened at her old school she found it easier to just stick to herself and using work as an excuse was an easy way to avoid any social gatherings, with the except of dorm mates and group projects. "Plus I get to do something I really like and practice my skills."

Hayden nodded, his uncle saying things like jobs or after school programs that helped kids stay away from a life of crime because they weren’t bored and had a creative outlet. He couldn’t see himself baking or decorating a cake, he’d probably cause a big explosion of flour or icing, and he didn’t like the idea of cleaning that up.
‘Do you want to do that for a living?’

Vaya considered his question, a small frown pulling at her lips. "I think so? But at the same time...thinking about the future is kind of scary." She admitted to him, with her past she had expected treasuring her future and looking forward to it because of how it had almost been pulled away from her, but instead it seemed like it was the opposite. She was left waiting for the future to be taken away from her again.

Hayden slowly nodded, knowing before he’d probably feel the same, but after the events a few years ago, he couldn’t help but be grateful that he could have such a worry. He took another cupcake, (Because I assume there’s more than two) and did the same thing he did before, making another cupcake sandwich.
‘I don’t even know what to do when I graduate.’
College was an obvious choice, but what to study, what to learn, what to bring to the table when he was ready to join the world and society.

(yes theres more than two lmao)
Vaya smiled a little when he took another cupcake, feeling some pride that he liked them enough to have a second. She reached out and took the last one but paused to read his paper. "Neither do I, I mean, I can go and bake and work in a bakery or start my own but that seems pretty lucrative." She shrugged, "but then again I guess everything has risk but...I also just want to have fun and not think about the future." She said before licking the frosting off of her cupcake.

Hayden thought she would want to try her hand at being maybe a pastry chef, but maybe it was just a hobby for her. Though if he had the ability to bake cupcakes good enough to sell, he wouldn’t think twice about what to do for the future.
‘Well, I’ll take your place instead then.’
He teased, having no talent for baking.

Vaya laughed, looking over at Hayden. "Are you a baker then?" She asked, a little bit of her curious but she had a feeling that she knew that his answer would be. She briefly thought of her cousins, especially Rosco, when their grandma had tried to get them to bake-she was lucky she had any form of a kitchen left after that debacle that still managed to make her laugh sometimes.

Hayden chuckled and shook his head, the last cake he tried to bake burned to a crisp, though he had only been ten, and had fallen asleep. He was glad it hadn’t caused some kind of fire, though he cake itself was so hard and almost complete ash, he wasn’t sure if it could even start a fire.
‘It wasn’t edible.’
He admitted, feeling his cheeks flush just a little as he wrote the words, a little embarrassed, even though he was just a kid.

Vaya looked at his note and laughed, shaking her head as she laughed. "It's okay, it happens. One time I tried to make a peppermint hot cocoa cupcake and," she grimaced, "let's just say it tasted more like mouth wash than hot cocoa."

Hayden made a face at the idea of a hot coco cupcake, though it sounded good in theory, he wasn’t sure what would make it actually translate into a cupcake. The mouthwash comment made him think it was because she put too much peppermint in.
‘Can’t be the worst flavor ever made though.’

Vaya raised an eyebrow, "it can be when it was an accident." She said, "now if I was trying for something to be the worst on purpose..." she paused, tapping her finger against her lower lip as she thought. "I'd probably do something like...cinnamon with apricot or something...or maybe a spiced cake with melon filling and shredded coconut." She shuddered at the idea of the texture, "with a lime frosting."

‘You’re putting me off cupcakes forever.’
Hayden teased, though he wasn’t really into fancy fillings or flavors, classic vanilla and chocolate couldn’t be beaten in his mind, and the fancy flavors just took away from the actual cupcake. He turned back to his work, but lost the motivation for it, but at least they did a lot of work on it.
‘We’ll need to figure out the sizes for the cards, so I can cover up the letters properly.’
It was the last thing he was going to say about their project, thinking they could figure that out later, when they had access to a projector.

Vaya laughed, "I told you I could come up with the worst flavor." She told him, pushing some hair behind her ear before glancing at the power point then down at his next written words on the paper. "Why not just regular pieces of paper?" She asked, figuring they could just lay one over the other and offered enough room to make some legible letters.

Hayden thought a moment about that. ‘Because I’m a perfectionist?’ he joked, though he wondered if the letters would cover up too much. He had to wonder if that should matter, feeling an itch at the back of his mind, but he couldn’t scratch it. ‘I guess we can work with that.’ He figured it was less work in the end.

Vaya laughed, shaking her head, "we have time to figure it out, we got a lot of work done today." She told him, feeling like they were probably farther ahead than most of their classmates. It was kind of nice to not be doing her usual run of the mill last minute cram sessions to get things done.

‘I like getting things done, or at least, a good portion of it,’ Hayden ended up procrastinating a lot of assignments, but since he would get at least half of them done, it wouldn’t take him that long, it was just a lot all at once usually. ‘Do you want to call it a day?’ he asked, knowing he had some other homework to do, but if she wanted to finish this, he didn’t mind, especially if she had more cupcakes.

"If we're being honest, I always procrastinate until the last minute." Vaya laughed, pushing some hair out of her face, "so this is a big change of pace for me." She said, wondering if he usually pushed through like this. It was a bit more motivating to have a partner who shared in the work like Hayden did. "I think we're good to call it day, unless you want to form a study group." She joked.

‘If I don’t stay on task for a while, I’ll easily be distracted by something else.’ Hayden admitted, but he was ready to be distracted, and like she said, they had gotten a lot done. ‘Sweet, not to be rude, but I’m ready to relax.’ He wasn’t sure what he wanted to play, which meant he’d end up back in Tears of a Kingdom.

Vaya laughed and nodded, "me too." She could easily be pulled off a task if something more fun came along. She was glad when he said he was ready to relax, "not at all, I'm ready to chill out too." She said, wondering if she could score some weed somewhere before curling up with a book.

Hayden grabbed his backpack, carefully slipping his things inside before writing a message ‘Cupcakes were good, I’d eat another flavor.’ He shrugged, zipping up his backpack. ‘Oh, when should we meet up again?’ figuring he could work on the letters the next time while continuing to research.
