Stormy looked back at him, suddenly feeling a little self conscious, "well I'd be willing to try it." She said, looking down at the barbells again then back at Emmett. "I promise not to drop it on your foot."

“Sure,” Emmett said with a big smile, thinking maybe the gym could become like his old family, big and full of people that helped one another out. He blinked at her, wondering how she would drop it on his foot if she took it to a spot not near his foot, not realizing he was still holding it. “Oh, just don’t drop it on yours.” He held the dumbbell out towards her, feeling the fact that this arm was a little tired from all the reps, guessing he did do enough for the day.

Stormy shifted under his smile and tried to ignore the nerves that were growing. It was just working out, that's all she needed to focus on. "I guess if I drop it I can at least get out of class." She joked, reaching out and taking the dumbbell from him. She had swayed for a second after taking the weight, a bit caught off guard at how much heavier it seemed to be than she had thought but focused on steadying her feet and brought the dumbbell up once then twice, already feeling the burn. A frown crossed her face as she tried to concentrate, lifting it again before finally having to set it down on the ground, away from Emmett's feet.

Emmett clapped his hands, “Not bad, it burns though,” He rubbed his own bicep remembering the feeling very well, sometimes though, he missed the feeling, and would try upping the weight. He didn’t realize this was something you were supposed to do. “And you didn’t drop it.” he added, standing up and walking over to her and picking it up. “So, I was planning on just casually riding on the bikes for the rest of class, I don’t know if you want to join me or not.” He liked the bikes when he was feeling slightly lazy, and he knew he’d rather be playing video games, or something a little mor fun.

Stormy smiled up at him, proud of herself for at least showing she could lift the weight and wondered just how strong she could get if she tried. She figured this would be the end of them hanging out if the weight lifting was done but when he invited her to ride the bikes she perked up and smiled. "Sure, why not." It seemed like a good way to keep working on her legs.

“They have little TV.s and you can either watch a show or like, have a video of you biking down a path.” Emmett had actually tried both, having gotten really drunk and decided to work out. He wasn’t sure why he decided to pick cycling, but the path choices were somehow more fun drunk. He started walking across the gym, but turned towards her, opening his mouth to say something, and stopped. He felt like he was missing something, but he wasn’t sure what it was and closed his mouth in confusion before sitting down. dd

"Oh, that sounds cool." Stormy wondered what kind of paths they had and if it really would make her feel like she was outside. She thought of her horse, a bit of guilt grabbing her, she'd need to see him soon and go for some kind of ride. She followed after Emmett but stopped when he was suddenly looking at her but was silent, making her gut twist a little. "You okay?" She asked as she got on the bike that was next to his.

“Ah, I thought I had a question,” Emmett admitted, having thought she wouldn’t notice, but he didn’t realize how it looked to someone else to suddenly stop walking and then continue like it didn’t happen. He started pedaling the bike which caused the screen to turn on, at least that was one smart thing they had done, you couldn’t watch if you weren’t pedaling. “I’m going to try the mountain path.” He let her know, pushing a few buttons before it showed the view of someone who might be riding a bike through the mountains on dirt pathways.

"Oh, okay." Stormy replied, wondering what he was going to ask but since he wasn't bringing it up now she figured it probably wasn't that important. She started to peddle on her bike, looking down at the screen curiously as she picked through the options, finding one that reminded her of a trail she used to take a lot. "Cool, I'm trying this one that looks like a field." She told him.

“Oh, that’s a nice easy fun one, goes over a few hills, but for the most part it’s all about that scenery.” Emmett remembered picking that one just last week, just his usual boring biking routine, but it had really been a nice relaxing time. “It’s cool, because you can also spot a few people walking around in the background.’ He hadn’t found another pathway like that, but he had a feeling the park probably would.

Stormy nodded, "I wonder if there any paths where you can see animals." She wondered as the trail came up on screen and she continued to peddle, finding it kind of weird how...realistic it felt. "It's kind of crazy how real this feels." She admitted, "it's kind of like riding a real bike."

“Probably, I’ve seen birds and bugs, on a few,” Emmett had flinched from one he thought the bird was flying at him, it hadn’t been a fun ride, but it didn’t help that it was dark, and he was wasted. He chuckled, a big smile on his face, “I know right, it’s a lot more fun than boring weights or machines.” Though he could try and count his reps forever, the repetitiveness of it bored him sometimes.

"Wow, I don't know how I feel riding with bugs flying at me." She laughed, thinking that it probably looked like bugs hitting a windshield. Stormy looked up at Emmett when he smiled, the expression making her chest go all fluttery. "I'll take your word for it, it definitely seems a lot more entertaining." She said before looking back at the screen on her bike, still finding it weird to feel the bike move as if she was going up a hill.

Emmett leaned back, putting his hands behind his head as he relaxed, biking as if it was nothing, though his pick wasn’t that difficult. “I think you’re safe on that one, but don’t take my word for it.” He laughed, barely remembering everything about every ride, just the parts that stuck out to him.

Stormy glanced over at Emmett and laughed a little, "I'll try not to, you're making this look easy." She teased as she continued to pedal, enjoying the rhythm and the way it helped distract her from her thoughts and worries. "So..." she said after a couple seconds, "where are you from?"

Emmett wasn’t sure how he was making it look easy, he was just pedaling away like he was actually biking, not thinking it would be harder than his. He blinked his eyes a few times at her question, trying to find the answer, but all he knew was he name of the town he was raised in, “Just a small town, a few hours from here.” He forgot the name of his town, though he felt it on the tip of his tongue, which he pushed against his cheek as if he could bring the answer that way.

Stormy nodded slowly, feeling like that was a bit of a vague answer but let it go. He didn't need to tell her his life story like she didn't need to tell him hers, even though the gossip had spread all over town like wildfire when her parents had split up. That was probably one of the more frustrating parts of this whole thing, she absolutely hated the pitying looks people gave her on the street. "Huh, a few hours isn't too bad, I hear a lot of people here talking about how much they miss home."

“Awww, I totally miss home. And Mike, Alex, Mindy, Sarah…” Emmett thought about his friends back home, wondering if they missed him, knew that he was going to a different school, and if they ever got his emails. “Where are you from?” he asked, thinking she might be homesick like he was.

Stormy tilted her head, wondering if those were names of family members or friends. "Oh," she suddenly felt guilty when he asked her where she was from, "I'm from here actually....my Dad runs a farm and my Mom runs the dance hall in town." She explained.

Emmett instantly brightened when she started talking about herself, and what her parents did, his feeble mind instantly forgetting his home and friends in an instant. “The dance hall? I haven’t been there, but I’ve heard about it. Is it all its cracked up to be?” he asked, thinking it was like the dance hall back home, but from what he heard it was a little different. Like alcohol and a mechanical bull, but at least they had choreographed dancing, like back in his hometown.

Stormy smiled a little, she could talk about the dance hall, at least that's what she told herself. She could talk about everything as long as she skirted the more...sensitive areas of her life. "I think it's pretty great, but I might be biased," she joked, "my mom lets people of all ages come in until about 9:00, after that it turns into only people 21 and over are allowed in." She said, liking the dancing and riding the bull, and even karaoke but all of that had lost it's sparkle for her.

Emmett nodded his head, wondering how late he could be out before getting in trouble. He often disobeyed rules back home, but he usually came back before curfew, or at least before his parents noticed, or any other adult in the neighborhood. “What time is curfew here?” he asked, betting it was probably something early, his family setting the rule for him to be back by seven.

"Uh...." Stormy furrowed her brows, "I think nine during the week and ten on the weekends? Though I don't think any of the RA's really enforce that." She said with a shrug, "but don't quote me, I have to go to my parents houses on the weekends."

“OOOOH, damn so, do they ever let you stay here for the weekend?” Emmett asked, wishing his old home was here too, he kind of missed it. “Are your parents strict?” He wasn’t sure if everyone else’s parents here had strict parents, but everyone back home had to follow a lot of rules. Emmett wasn’t sure why, but he often got away with breaking those rules, and he wasn’t sure why.

"Not unless there's some kind of event or something," Stormy shrugged, maybe she could fake sick one weekend to get out of going. "I spend one weekend with my dad and then the next weekend with my mom and it just goes back and forth." She explained, head tilting as she thought of her mom and dad. "My dad is definitely the more laid back one, my mom is..." she paused, "she can be intense sometimes. What are your parents like?"

Emmett wondered if he asked his grandparents, he could visit home and see everyone, though every time he brought up that place, they told him that he should talk more about his new school and friends. He tilted his head when she said she spent different weekends with her parents, “Do they own two different houses?” It was a little weird for the kids to switch houses, but he knew Mikes dad had two families that he spent different nights with. “Oh, my parents are fun, nice, a little strict, but for the most part they’re great.” He missed them, hoping they were doing well at the spa.

"I mean technically yeah," Stormy said with a slight frown, "they're divorced so my dad has his place and mom has hers." She said with a slight shrug and pushed her hair out of her face as she peddled but listened to him. "They sound cool," she told him with a slight smile, thinking he was lucky that his parents were still together.

Emmett blinked at the word divorce. No one in his community divorced, though they often had multiple partners. “I’m sorry.” It was the only thing he could think of to say, he wasn’t sure it would help though, thinking that she had two houses at least to stay in, kind of like him with his parents and his grandparents.

Stormy shrugged, the next words coming out of her mouth without hesitation, "it's okay, it's done and over with, it's just a little weird now." She brushed some hair out of her face. Though now it felt a bit weirder now with her sister back in the mix with the belief that she could somehow fix their parents relationship. "Being here most of the time helps."

Emmett felt those words, feeling weird at knowing someone who had divorced parents, but he wasn’t going to bring that up, a little light at the back of his brain slightly turning on as a sign of a good idea. “Well, whenever you need to work out or bike a path, I’ll be here.” He laughed, feeling like he was always at the gym.
