Gwen slowly nodded her head with that information, her smile slowly growing, "Well. The only other plans I had was run that little one ragged, feed her dinner, and watch her pass out." She chuckled, knowing she'd spent her evenings once again going over her things for school, or drinking a glass of wine and watching a show. She couldn't help but think ten years ago how different she was spending her evenings, but when she spotted Lotties smiling face, she couldn't help but smile too.

"Well, seeing her right now, it might take some time for her to get tired." Markus chuckled, "honestly, I wish I still had that much energy." He joked, seeing Lottie playing tag with a few other kids and running around the play area. Briefly he thought about work and everything else going on, the mental list in his mind making him feel a little tired himself but he wasn't going to throw in the towel any time soon. His gaze softened when he saw her smile and he gave her hand a squeeze as the cafe worker came and dropped off their food and drinks for them.

Gwen grimaced when she realized Lottie still had a ton of energy, and she was about to try and make her sit and eat. "I'll give her another ten minutes. Let this cool a little." She didn't figured it couldn't hurt, especially when he squeezed her hand, sending heat and tingles up her arm. "So," She turned her attention to her food, trying to be nonchalant as she tried to eat with one hand. "Um," All it had taken for her to forget her words was to look up at his face, and her insides went all gooey. She felt something she hadn't felt in a long time, but Gwen couldn't put her finger on when it had happened.
"Mommy, I'm thirsty."
Lottie's voice broke through to Gwen's brain and snapped her out of whatever spell she'd been under and she turned her attention to her daughter. "Oh, Lottie yes, here." She let go of Markus's hands hoping Lottie wouldn't note that, and grabbed for the kids cup to hand to her. "Want to eat a little?" She asked, forcing herself to be the mom Lottie deserved, something she never got.
Lottie Narrows her eyes at her mother's hand as it leaves Mr. Bucky's hands, following her mother's movements till she got the cup, taking a drink, eyeing Markus from the side.

Markus nodded, the corners of his mouth twitching up as he watched her try to eat one handed but it didn't stop him from trying to eat his own food with his free hand, finding it easier with the french fries. He looked back at Gwen, his gaze catching with hers and sending his heart into a quick flurry until a little voice complained about being thirsty and his hand was suddenly cold. He pulled his hand back, grabbing his own drink to sip from while Gwen took care of Lottie, his gaze softening at how quick she was able to respond but then the little hairs on the back of his neck stood up. He glanced over to see Lottie eyeing him like a cat would eye a mouse. He swallowed a little but gave Lottie a little wink.

Lottie turned her attention to the food Gwen had laid before her, snacking on a few things while she also colored on the placemat with the crayons the waiter had brought over.
Once Gwen was satisfied that Lottie was content, she turned her attention to the food before her, realizing she now had both hands to eat with, but she really wanted to hold his hand more. "Have you ever shaved your beard?" She asked, curious to know if he'd try going the short route, even though she was drooling over his long haired version of him. She forced herself to eat, knowing if she did quickly, maybe she could find a reason to hold his hand again.

Markus breathed a sigh of relief when Lottie focused on her food instead of on him, it was like be stared down by the T-Rex from Jurassic Park and he wanted to make a good impression on the little girl if he and Gwen were going to continue exploring whatever it was between them. As they settled in Markus stretched out his leg, pressing the side of his foot against Gwen's since holding hands did make it a bit harder to eat. He laughed at her question, looking up at her, "once, a long time ago, now I jus trim it." He chuckled, back then he was still in college and had shaved it on a dare, which he learned to never do again.

Gwen smiled as he talked about the one time he did shave it, not unhappy to find that all he did was trim it. "That bad huh?" She teased, trying to imagine what he'd look like, but she couldn't picture it. Her eyes trailed his hands and arms, wondering if he had any tattoos, "How do you feel about ink?" She asked, trying to imagine what kind of tattoos he'd get if he did decide to get a tattoo.

"It was bad, I looked like a baby." He joked, remembering that shock he'd gotten when he'd looked at himself in the mirror for the aftermath. "Tattoos?" He asked, "I don't mind them but I don't have any." Markus replied, looking back at her with a tilt of his head, "do you have any?" He couldn't see any but maybe she had one hidden somewhere under her clothes but his throat grew a little tight as his thoughts spiraled downwards to what else was under her clothes.

Gwen laughed and shook her head, "I think you should keep the beard." She teased, though she wasn't going to say no to something she actually liked. "I'm a little shocked you don't have any," She wondered what his reasonings were, trying to imagine him being the type to be scared of needles. "I have one, on my ankle." She'd gotten the date that she was five years clean, Lottie had only been about four then.

"Good, because I plan on keeping it." He chuckled, if he had it his way, he'd never shave his beard again. He shrugged a little bit, "I haven't seen one that I wanted bad enough yet but you should see my brothers Beck and Leo, they have more than enough tattoos to make up for all of us who don't have any." He chuckled, maybe one day if he found one he wanted bad enough he'd get it but he wasn't sure when or if it would ever happen. "What is it?" He asked curiously, shifting his leg slightly so his knee rested against hers.

Gwen giggled a little when she felt his leg touch hers, "Just pick one on your brothers you like and claim it as your own tattoo." She teased, thinking if he even paid for one to be done, he could claim that one. Gwen fiddled with her napkin, pretending to clean off her hands after eating, debating on telling Markus the truth or lie, "It's a specific date," She started off with, eyeing Lottie from the side who was staring through the window into the playground. "When I um, became five years sober." She admitted, looking everywhere but at Markus, feeling slightly embarrassed, about her past.

Markus chuckled, shaking is head. "I guess I could, I used to give my nieces and nephews markers to color in their tattoos." He smiled back at the memories and how much fun the kids seem to have doing that while holding his brothers captive. Her perked up a little when he told her about her tattoo, leaning in slightly. His eyebrow raised slightly when she admitted to being sober but a smile grew on his face, "congratulations, that definitely deserves being remembered." He told her, not judging her for who she was, he was getting to know her now and so far he was liking every little thing about her and he could just tell by the way she took care of her daughter that she was a sweet, kind, and dedicated person.

Gwen looked over at Lottie, knowing she'd definitely would spend time coloring in someone's tattoos for hours, mostly talking and making up a word for the things she was coloring in. Gwen smiled softly, wrapping her arm around Lottie and squeezing her shoulders. "I had to, for this one." She teased, then told Lottie to go play some more. She was happy to be sober from drugs now eight years, but she didn't want to talk about it much, it always brought back memories she was hoping to keep in the dark forever. "So, sea lions and then where should we go?" She asked, wanting to change the subject, not wanting Markus to think twice about hanging out with her, but she felt his knee rub against hers and the butterflies started fluttering on their own.

Markus smiled softly at Gwen and Lottie, looking up at Gwen once Lottie was off playing. "Well I think it's great that you did that." He told her, reaching out and lightly resting his hand over hers. "Sea lions," he nodded, "then I believe there are touch pools we can check out and I think there's an octopus too." He told her but didn't reach for the brochure that sat in his pocket. "Also," he said, lowering his voice, "I saw some signs talking about a mermaid show, do you think Lottie would be into that?"

Gwen shivered at his touch, a smile growing on her face as she relaxed, realizing he wasn't going to judge her, though she wondered if he might still once he learned what she was sober from. She hesitated for a second before intertwining her fingers with his, hoping she wasn't pushing boundaries. She nodded at each thing he listed, but perked up with the mermaid show. "Oh, she would love that." She didn't know this place had such a show, but now she knew Lottie would be over the moon about it.

Markus smiled softly when he felt her fingers intertwine through his, letting his thumb run over her finger again. "I thought so," he chuckled softly, figuring what little girl wouldn't love seeing a mermaid or two in a big tank. "I'll keep track of time so we don't miss it." He reassured her, checking his watch almost second nature for him plus he didn't want Gwen to have to worry instead of enjoy her time here.

"If we did miss it, I'd have to keep her from finding out," Gwen grimaced at the thought of Lottie finding out about mermaids after missing the show, though would promise a thousand pinky swears that she'd bring her back just for the mermaid show. "So, you're from Montana, and moved here, did you go to college in Montana?" She wondered if he ended up in a small college town, like where she grew up and wreaked havoc.

"Don't worry, we won't miss it." Markus reassured her, determined that they'd get to see almost everything the aquarium had to offer so that they had a memorable. He knew he'd remember this day but he couldn't say the same for Gwen but he was hoping that he was making a good impression on the two. "No, I decided to get out of Montana and go to this college town by the coast," he smiled a bit at those wild memories, "what about you?"

Gwen thought about her hometown, also a college town by the coast, the place her mother dumped her before disappearing without a trace. “A small town, other side of the country. A place I am very grateful to leave.” She chuckled nervously, not wanting to think about her past demons she hoped she left behind. She didn’t want to think about it following her here, though so far it hadn’t, just one person that might if he ever found out about Lottie.

Markus nodded, figuring she was grateful to leave due to whatever she had gone through in the past. "It's nice to get out of your home town sometimes and see what else is out there." He said then looked down at all of their trash from their food, "are we done? If we can wrangle the little lady from the playground we could make it to the mermaid show."

Gwen perked up when he mentioned the mermaid show, having disappeared into the past. "Oh, perfect, I'll go grab her." She said with a smile, though it faded slightly when she pulled her hand from his. She grabbed her purse and headed into the playground area, calling out for Lottie, who of course took five minutes to make it down because she 'got lost', but now walked hand in hand with Gwen as they made their way back into the café seating area, looking for Markus.

While Gwen got Lottie Markus took care of their trash, throwing it all away and making sure their table was clean then waited for the two girls, smiling as they came closer. Markus held out his hand to Gwen automatically, "ready for a surprise Lottie?" He asked the little girl, hoping she'd love it.

Gwen spotted him and made her way over, her heart skipping a beat when he held out his hand to her, she couldn't help but looked down to Lottie, who was more interested some kid with a bubble wand. She wasn't sure if this was moving too fast, but she didn't want Lottie to worry about anything. Gwen still slid her hand into his, feeling instant warmth, and needing to find a way to keep it. When he mentioned a surprise, her attention when back to her daughter, who whipped her head around to face him with wide eyes.

Markus couldn't stop himself from grinning when Gwen's hand slid into his and gave it a squeeze before turning his attention back to Lottie, his grin turning into a playful smile. "Come on, your mom and I will show you the coolest surprise." He told her, leading Gwen and Lottie through the aquarium until they reached a large aquarium tank full of tropic fish. He managed to get the girls close to the glass right as one of the two mermaids appeared from the top of the tank, swimming down along the bottom of the tank and waving at everyone who had arrived.

The second Lottie saw the mermaids swimming around in the tank, she ran straight up to the glass, pressing her face to it.
Gwen stepped back so she could let Lottie enjoy the show, and allow some other little kids to run up and watch. She pulled her phone out to snap some photos, still keeping her hand in Markus's. "I have a feeling she's going to ask me for a pool, and a mermaids tail for her birthday." She chuckled, knowing the apartments had a pool, but she had no idea where she'd get a tail.

Markus chuckled softly as he watched Lottie before turning his attention to Gwen, smiling softly as she took pictures. "I'm sure you could find a tail online." He chuckled, wondering if Lottie really would want to pretend to be a mermaid but he wouldn't be surprised if she did. "Maybe you could be a mermaid with her." He teased, giving her hand a squeeze.

Gwen bit the inside of her cheek, worried about the tail being more of a hazard than a toy, thinking if she had a hot tub or a jacuzzi tub, she'd let her wear it in there until she was older and had swimming lessons. She turned to Markus at his comments, a light blush flushing across her cheeks, "Maybe, I'd be afraid I'd drown." She nervously chuckled, wishing she had a private pool to play mermaids with Lottie.

Marcus tilted his head slightly, "that's understandable but," he couldn't help himself as he leaned in, whispering in her ear, "I think you'd make a beautiful mermaid." The second the words left his mouth he hoped that he didn't just make a huge mistake that would result in him getting slapped across the face.

Gwen felt a shiver run along her skin when he whispered in her ear, a huge smile growing on her face, the image of being a special mermaid just for Markus flashed in her mind. She turned towards him, "Wow, are you flirting with me?" She asked teasingly, her eyes sparklingly with excitement. "Because I kind of like it." She admitted, giving his hand a squeeze, feeling like this was going the way she hoped it would.

Markus felt his face heat up and turn red with her teasing. A goofy grin did cross his face when she said she liked and squeezed her hand back. "Well that's good, if you told me you didn't I'd just throw myself into the shark tank." He joked, feeling a little nervous and awkward.
