Shannon rolled her eyes, hating the idea of couples in matching costumes, thinking very few made the cut for her. She didn’t celebrate Halloween, didn’t dress up unless it was a raging costume party she was invited to, and she couldn’t remember when she last went trick or treating, or doing it at all. “A ray of annoyance.” She corrected him, finding him insufferable, wishing she had worn different shoes, and feeling a dreadful feeling creep up her spine. “I am doing what I want.” She figured if he was going to stick around, he’d find out, it wasn’t like she was planning to go anywhere else, the downside was, it was a fairly good walk from here.

"Hey, still a ray of something." Reed said, chuckling a little. If he was that annoying she could have ordered him to leave her alone by now but she hadn't. "Ah, doing what you want, what a coincidence, so am I." He replied, wondering if she was really going to head all the way down to the stables at this time.

Shannon muttered under her breath about how annoying he was, and she wished she could hit him. She couldn’t and that pissed her off even more. “What’s it going to take for you to leave me alone and do you own thing, somewhere else.” she asked as the barn came into view. She loved the barn, it was big, gorgeous, and cozy. She could live in the barn happily if it meant avoiding certain people, but she was sure he wouldn’t avoid the place, certain he had his own horse too.

Reed didn't catch what she said but he's sure it was something scathing, which didn't phase him. "Hmmm, I dunno," he replied, looking over at the barn, figuring that if she did tell him to piss off he could just take out his horse for a bit, it wasn't too late to take him out for a quick bit of exercise. "Why you coming all the way out here anyway? Do you have a horse?"

She turned to face him when they finally reached the barn, and she was partially tempted to say no and head in for the night. Something else tugged her to go inside instead, and she wanted it to be her desire to see Hades. “Yes.” Was all she said, taking the time to look him up and down, seizing him up before she slipped inside the barn through the side door. It was quiet, except for the sound of someone on the far side was working, but Shannon didn’t hesitate to find Hades. “Hello my handsome boy.” She cooed to the horse, who pushed his head through the opening of his stall at the sound of her voice.

Reed nodded, glancing at the barn and spotting his uncles truck, where the man found the energy to keep working he had no idea, but it did make him worry that Silas could be working himself too hard. He followed Shannon into the barn, pausing when he saw her horse and chuckled, shaking his head. "Of course he's yours."

Shannon sent a glaring side eye towards Reed as she reached up and started petting Hades on the bridge of his face. “You say that like it’s a bad thing,” She stated, wondering if he, like everyone else who met her horse, though he was terrible because of his name. “Always judged before they know you, Hades.” She shook her head before opening the stall door and stepping inside, running a hand along her horses neck, Hades standing perfectly still, and only nickering a greeting to her.

"Not a bad thing, just that your trusty steed tried to rip my ear off when I walked to close to his stable when he first got here." Reed frowned a little as he eyed the horse. He could admire the beast but go near him? No, he was probably more dangerous with Shannon by him, no matter how sweet he knickered at her

Shannon raised an eyebrow, “Hades? My sweet would never,” She smirked, trusting her horses’ instincts and not liking the guy. “He hates you, not sure why.” She ran her hand along Hade’s shoulder and up to his withers, desire to ride flashing in her mind. It was too late of course, but she still wanted to regardless of the time.

"Uh huh." Reed rolled eyes as he took in Shannon and her horse. "I thought he'd like a carrot but I guess I ended up offending him instead." He huffed a little before crossing to the other side of his tables where a horse peered out at him, snorting slightly. "Hey there Bully boy, it's been a minute." He softened, reaching out and gently scratching the horses head.

Shannon’s mouth dropped open at the confession, “Well no wonder he tried to bite you, you tried to kill him.” She pointed to a little whit sign on the side of the stall that read ‘Allergic to carrots. She shook her head as she consoled the horse, even though she didn’t know when it happened. “What to go for a quick ride?” She whispered to the horse, wondering if she could sneak in her tack while Reed was obviously visiting his own horse.

"What?" Reed whirled around to see what she was getting at when he saw the sign, his face turning a little red. "Okay, that was not there before I swear, besides, what horse is allergic to carrots?" He replied, looking between her and the horse, wondering if this was some kind of prank as his horse snorted again. "And you ain't supposed to ride at this time, it's too late."

Shannon just shrugged, her mind was already passed dealing with Reed almost killing Hades over a carrot, even though she was told the sign would be up the second Hades arrived at the barn. She leaned against her horse, “Rude, he’s listening in on our conversation.” She whispered again to Hades, wondering if her voice traveled or if Reed was really listening in or not. It didn’t matter, her mind was made up, she was going to ride whether she was allowed to or not. She patted Hades on the neck before exiting the stall and headed towards the tack room, not looking in Reed’s direction. She had to keep her eyes open for whoever was working in the barn, she guessed it was the western teacher, having noticed he worked a lot down at the barn.

Reed looked between Shannon and her horse, starting to double back on his question of if she was just some crazy horse girl or not. He did however, groan when she walked away, heading directly to the tack room. He glanced at his horse before going after her, limping a bit until he caught up, "seriously, if you ride now you can risk getting written up and it's dangerous if you don't use the arena."

Shannon had easily made it to the tack room without running into whoever was in the barn besides the two of them, and voices coming in clearer as she reached for the doorknob had her realizing there were two people here, instead of just one of the instructors. She turned to glare at Reed as he spoke like a nark, the Spongebob meme once again popping into her head. “Who’s going to know?” She asked, knowing not many people came down to the barn, the place was practically deserted despite how gorgeous it was. She hesitated just slightly before opening the door, it wasn’t like she couldn’t pretend to know, she could be kind of innocent and convincing the first few weeks of school.

Reed perked up a little when he heard his uncle talking to someone else, frowning slightly. Of course he was here, there was hardly a time where he wasn't if he didn't have work to do around the ranch. He looked back at Shannon, a frown crossing his face, "the instructor as soon as he makes his rounds checking on the horses." He replied, glancing at the tack room then back towards the arena.

“Huh,” Was all Shannon said before she slipped into the tack room, happy to let the door close behind her if it meant Reed stayed on the other side. She grabbed Hade’s bridle and the soft blanket that went underneath, debating on if she could handle carrying the light weight saddle or if she should leave it and come back.

Reed's attention snapped back to Shannon and he narrowed his eyes at her but then the door closed in front of his face. He frowned a little but then got an idea, thanks to knowing the barn like the back of his hand he took off, grabbing a chair from a spot near by and shoved the back under the knob, essentially trapping her inside the tack room.

Shannon figured she’d come back for the saddle, but when she tried the door, it wouldn’t budge. “What the fuck did you do!” She called out, being able to tell it wasn’t locked, but it was obviously blocked by something. “Fuck.” She muttered as she looked around, betting there was some way to get out. She spotted a vent, but shivered at the idea of crawling through it, guessing there were probably bugs or spiders and she wasn’t about to touch those. She continued her search through the room, and spotted a small window to the outside. She’d have to climb through it, but it was better than a vent.

"Trying to keep you from getting yourself banned from the barn." Reed said through the door, frowning when she went quiet and leaned into the door, pressing his ear against it to try to hear her. He hoped she was still in there and hadn't tried to escape somehow but he had a feeling she wouldn't be able to so quick and without making some noise.

Shannon sighed, coming to realize she wouldn’t be able to fit through the window with the bridle and saddle blanket. She rolled her eyes, but furrowed her eyebrows. “Why do you care.” She stated, not really asking for an answer, hoping it would distracted him as she put her things back before moving to the window, wondering if it would open easily or not. “Not like it affects you at all.” She mumbled as she walked over to the window and inspected it. It wasn’t locked so all she had to do was push it open, but that revealed it was not as big an opening as she thought. “Better than being stuck in here.” She mumbled to herself as she strategized how to get out before sticking one leg through, not wanting to land headfirst outside.

"Because it would suck for your horse," he replied with a frown, plus he wouldn't want to endure the wrath of his uncle, he'd seen Silas get mad before and didn't want to see that ever again. He listened harder at the door, frown deepening, "I wouldn't recommend trying to climb out of there, unless you want to humiliate yourself."

Shannon wasn’t paying attention to Reed on the other side of the door. She could hear him say something, but it was nothing but mumbled words. She was able to slip both legs out the window and was working on shimming the rest of her body out. Unfortunately she realized a little too late she was too short to reach the ground from that height, and had to adjust by turning onto her stomach. “Fucking hell. Thanks mom, for your fucking short genes.” She cursed as she reached as far as her toes could reach, but she couldn’t touch the ground. She didn’t know how far the fall was but she wasn’t about to get stuck here with the most annoying person on the planet.

Reeds frown deepened because he swore he could hear some muffled swearing. "What the fuck is she doing?" He muttered under his breath, hesitating for a moment before moving the chair and walking into the tack room, his eyes widening when he saw her, for a moment completely silent until he burst out laughing, unable to help himself. "Oh, this is rich." He chuckled, grabbing his phone from his pockets and snapping a picture of her.

“Just have to drop,” Shannon was telling herself when the door swung open and she froze, staring at the annoying twin she was starting to recognize. She rolled her eyes when he started to laugh, but when he snapped the photo, she realized she was losing her grip on the window, and she could feel a tug at her shirt as if it was stuck. “Fucking asshole.” She squealed as she slid from the window, landing on her ass on the ground, but she was outside. “HA!” She shouted happily, not caring that she fell out of the window, she was free without dealing with him.

Reeds mouth dropped when Shannon fell out of the window. "Oh shit," he shoved his phone into his pocket and ran to the window, pulling himself up and looked out at the with concern on his face but once she shouted his eyebrow raised, "well I was gonna ask if you're okay but I guess I have my answer." He said, shaking his head at her as he debated how fast he could get to locking up the barn so she wouldn't try running in and going out for a ride again.

Shannon rubbed her thighs as the pain subsided, knowing she’d have a bruise in the morning, but that was a small sacrifice to get out of a locked room. She stood up on wobbly legs before she looked back up to Reed in the window, glaring at him, debating on saying something back at him, but had a feeling it would just encourage him. She flipped him off instead before turning on her heels, looking around where she was, before picking a path that left the barn and headed onto one of the trails. She didn’t know where she was going, but any destination was better than staying there.

Reed looked back at Shannon, ready for her to snap at him but when she didn't he frowned a little, watching as she flipped him off and started walking. He assumed she'd head back to the school so he closed the window until he saw her heading down a trail. "Fuck." He muttered, "damn city kids." He left the tack room, trying to stay quiet as he left the barn, following the direction that Shannon went, letting loose a breath when he caught up. "You either don't know anything about this place or you're just asking to get hurt."

The moon wasn’t full, but it was bright enough for Shannon to see by, and she was thankful she wore her High Tops rather than heels tonight. She didn’t care where she ended up, she just wanted fresh air and time away from the school that would essentially be her home for the next three years. She made a face when the annoying twin joined her, and she had to refrain from rolling her eyes. “Maybe I’m okay with that.” She didn’t understand why he bothered, he wasn’t her keeper, wasn’t like he’d get in trouble if she got hurt.

"You're gonna be okay when a pack of coyotes rip you to pieces or when a mountain lion hunts you down and mauls you?" Reed replied, frowning at her. Silas had told them stories of hearing the coyotes baying during the nights and finding odd tracks around the trails , always warning them to be extra careful when out on the horses. It would probably be rare to see something out here but the odds were never zero.
