The sound of the baby’s heart on the monitor made Cassie’s headache worsen with each pump of it. The headache wasn’t because of the baby itself; it was more from the fact that she was single, not even talking to anyone, and here she was. Pregnant. She couldn’t help but fear her baby would end up in a broken family like her.
“Alright, is it too soon to know the gender?”
“Marcy, please.” Cassie rolled her eyes, not ready to find out if she was having a girl or not when she had other issues to think about first.
“Sorry, I got kind of excited. You’re pregnant! Aren’t you happy?” Marcy asked, knowing Cassie wanted kids, she just didn’t know the extent of it.
Cassie sighed, she was happy, ecstatic even. She just couldn’t show it right now as flash backs of her growing up with her dad walking out on them one day, her mother almost killing herself over it, and barely being able to provide for them after she moved on. Her mother was cold and distant now and barely talked to Cassie at all.
“You know you won’t be like that Cassie, you can easily provide whatever you need for the kid.” Marcy had a point.
Cassie owned multiple Tattoo shops that had amazing following of loyal clients. She wasn’t a millionaire, but she was doing well off. She still had that worry though and had always wanted to be married before having kids. Or at least, in a relationship.
A few seconds of silence fell before Marcy spoke again, breaking the silence as she always did. “Do you know who the father is?”
Cassie sighed at the question, “Yea. I do.” She knew who it was because Leo was the only one she’d been sleeping with the past six months. They hadn’t become exclusive, they’d just been friendly, flirty, and ended up fooling around. She eyed Marcy from the side, knowing she’d probably judge her because he was after all, one of her number one client before he moved.
“Oh… I know that look. You didn’t… Did you.” Marcy narrowed her eyes at her, glaring into her soul to speak the truth, even if she already knew with Cassie having to tell her.
Cassie ran a hand through her hair, “Yup… I did.” Was all she said, feeling a little stressed about the situation. She didn’t know where he had moved to, wasn’t sure he would want to even have a kid or want to be in the kid’s life, but she had to try if she wanted to have a family that didn’t fall apart. “I have to find out where he moved to, I can’t tell him the news over the phone.”
“Oh, leave that to me.” Macy smirked, pulling out her phone, and doing what Cassie hated to do. Be on social media.
It was only going to be a matter of time before Marcy learned where Leo had moved to, and Cassie would fly out as soon as she could. She only hoped that he would be happy to see her at all. She felt the worry of raising a child alone in a broken family sent chills down her spine, making her do something she had never done before; prayed that Leo wouldn't push her away.
