Elizabeth was lost in battle in her mind, the logical side trying to convince her that she didn’t care what Lewis thought when it came to romance novels, but her gut said otherwise, and her gut was never wrong. She snapped out of it when out of the blue, Lewis asked her a question, and as if she was taking a quiz or a test, she blurted out an answer. “Tamlin? Or Rhysand?” She knew it was a question and not an answer, but it was the first thing she thought of to know if he had good taste or not. She narrowed her eyes as she waited for him to reply, or deny, but how could he lie with such evidence in his hands.

Lewis just stared at Elizabeth for a second, wondering if he was having some kind of hallucination. He must have been because he responded before questioning Elizabeth any further. "Azriel." He told her, glancing at the book in his hand then at her again with a frown. "Rowan or Dorian?"

“Typical, everyone over looks Cassian,” Elizabeth rolled her eyes, though knew there was a huge following for the character. She tilted her head in thought at his question, wondering how long this back and forth would go, but was only stalling in her mind over the question. “I mean, I love Dorian for sure. But Lorcan has my heart.” She clasped her hand and if she was a cartoon character, she knew she’d have heart shaped eyes. She quickly shut that down, clearing her throat, reminding herself that she had shit to do. “Anyways. Have fun.” She rolled her eyes and waved her hand as if she was waving goodbye, but she didn’t move.

"Well yeah, he's a bit wild." Lewis shrugged, finding him a bit too boisterous but he was entertaining at least. He frowned slightly at her when she said Lorcan, not expecting that answer but went along with it. He didn't seem like her type though as he was thinking about it he was probably the perfect one for her: grumpy, mean and self serving. "Yeah, sure." He turned back to his book, turning the page when a piece of folded paper fell out, making him frown. "what the fuck?" He picked up the paper and unfolded it, his brows furrowing.

Elizabeth rolled her eyes and turned to head back to the study room, but stopped at his words, and being nosy, she couldn’t help but turn around. She watched him pick up something from the floor and she was hooked, intrigued even if it ended up being just a plain old bookmark. “What is it?” She asked, stopping a few steps away, crossing her arms over her chest, wondering if he was going to include her in or not.

"I don't know," Lewis frowned as he looked over the paper, scanning over the words. "It looks like some kind of love not or something." He explained as he continued to read it, feeling like he was reading some kind of Romeo and Juliet style love note where their feelings had to be kept hidden for some reason. As he read it he couldn't help but wonder who it was writing it and why.

Elizabeth had stepped closer to Lewis, leaving a gap between the two of them as she looked over the note. “That seems private, though why would you leave it in a book. In the library.” That was stupid to do in her opinion, and Lewis just proved it by finding it before the recipient cold.

The hair on the back of his neck seemed to rise when Elizabeth stepped closer. He glanced at her from the corner of his eye and shrugged, "Because they want to keep it some kind of secret, hence the nick names." He said, pointing at the two different ones being used, one person using blue ink and the other purple. He frowned a little as he looked at the hand writing, feeling like one of them was more feminine than the other. He tried not to read too much of the content but what he did read seemed romantic in nature and he kind of liked it, the old fashion way to communicate but he did wonder why the code names.

Elizabeth rolled her eyes, “Again, kind of dumb to use books in a library anyone can pick up,” Motioning with her hands to Lewis, seeing the fact that he had found the letters. “If you found them, what’s stopping other people.” She pointed out, but maybe whoever wrote these notes didn’t think anyone would be reading these romance novels, other than teachers maybe.

Lewis shrugged, "well it's not like a lot of people come back to this corner to read." He shot back at her, looking over the note again with some curiosity of who it was behind it before tucking it back into the pages it had dropped from. The process had its flaws but he kind of liked the method of communication and wondered if the people knew who the other was.

Elizabeth opened her mouth to say she’d seen plenty of people, but that would mean she’d have to admit she was one of them. Her mom had stupidly gotten her into them and even those stupid hallmark movies, but it was one of the fun things she actually enjoyed with her mom. “Wonder if it was supposed to be on a specific page.” She mused, debating on if they’d change up their tactics or think the other forgot the right page number.

Lewis paused at her question, glancing at where he had put the paper in the book, frowning a little bit. "Well if it's supposed to be they'll have to look a little harder for it." He said, hoping whoever the person was on the receiving end of the note would find it, suddenly feeling a little guilty if they didn't because of him.

Elizabeth shrugged her shoulders, but now she was planning to check all the books, surely thinking the person would come grab the note and reply in a couple of days. She sighed as she looked around the empty and dark library and suddenly felt bored. “How did we get locked in the library?” She groaned, mostly disappointed in herself, because she hadn’t been paying attention, but she was almost finished with her work.

Lewis looked at the book before sliding it back into its spot on the shelf. He cut a glance towards Elizabeth and shrugged. "Apparently someone didn't do their job right and didn't fully check the library." He replied, glad that the lights were at least left on so they weren't stuck in total darkness....until the lights shut off. "Are you fucking kidding me?" He groaned, looking up towards the ceiling.

Elizabeth sighed when the lights turned off, “Guess studying for the rest of the night is out.” She sighed, wondering why the lights waited so long to turn off, though had a feeling they were on a timer. Her stomach growled suddenly making her realize they’d missed dinner, but she didn’t have any snacks with her. “I’ll be raiding the vending machine if you need me.” She told Lewis before heading to the front where three vending machines sat.

Lewis shook his head, hoping the lights were motion activated but was unfortunately proven wrong when they didn't some back on after Elizabeth started walking. "Fucking ridiculous." He grumbled to himself, how was he going to deal with any of this? "Okay." he said with a shrug, wandering off to the other end of the library where tables were spaced out and got an idea. A smirk crossed his face as he started to get to work, grabbing one of the near by chairs.

Elizabeth spent a good ten minutes picking out several snacks and drinks, bringing the armload over to the tables where Lewis was, and dropped the load on one of the corners. “What are you doing?” She asked, opening a Diet Coke and taking a sip as she looked through her goodies and pulled out a pack of mini-Oreos.

While Elizabeth was away Lewis definitely had time to play. He had pushed together two long tables, pushing chairs in around them as if he was making a wall and even took some chairs, stacking them on top of the table. He left out just enough room for him to crawl through an opening and lay under the tables, stretched out across the floor. He peered out when Elizabeth asked him what he was doing, frowning a little. "Enjoying my sickass fort, what are you doing?"

Elizabeth leaned over to investigate his hideout and popped one of the Oreos into her mouth. “Eating a snack.” She told him, looking at the pile she had gotten, and debated on sharing any of it with him. “Is this what you plan to do for the rest of the night?” she asked, figuring if it was, at least he’d be out of her way.

Lewis looked back at her, raising an eyebrow as he watched her eat the Oreos. "Maybe, are you going to keep all those to yourself?" He replied, knowing he could go and get something but her Oreos did look really good.

Elizabeth popped another Oreo into her mouth when he asked, “Maybe. Am I allowed in said fort?” she asked, though didn’t know why she cared if she wasn’t. It reminded her of being left out the girl’s club in middle school because she was too nerdy, even if she tried getting into the girly hobbies of makeup and boys.

Lewis looked at her with a slight frown, wondering why she would want to but then shrugged and crawled over to the side. "Sure, c'mon." He told her, figuring that if he needed to he could just shove the chairs out of the way and crawl off.

When Lewis scooted over for her, she felt a little tingle down her spine, she wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing, but she took the snacks and tossed them inside before sliding inside. “What do you like to drink? I got a few options.” She offered, knowing when she snacked, her mouth got dry.

Lewis looked at the snacks then at Elizabeth, still surprised that someone as stuck up as she was even indulging in his child like antics. "I like Mountain Dew." He shrugged, wondering if she could some how poison an unopened can and this was just some kind of ploy to get him out of the running's for top of the class.

Elizabeth grabbed the can and held it out to him. “I have to be in a mood to drink Mountain Dew.” It was mostly when her parents threw her a party, even though her fellow classmates were in her house, she rarely stayed. They only came because it was always a good time, so she drank mountain dew to feel the vibe and did homework. She crawled in next to him, laying on her back and looking up at the bottom of the table. After a few seconds, she couldn’t stand the silence. “This is weird isn’t it.” Though she had to admit, she didn’t feel weird at all, but she couldn’t describe what it was instead.

Lewis took the can from her and popped it open, looking over at her "yeah, it is. Not gonna lie, I feel like you probably put arsenic is one of these things." He told her, pretending to inspect the can before taking a drink.
Back at home Aleah was curled up on her couch with a blanket pulled up to her neck, playing a random game on her phone until she got a pop up alert from the schools security system. She frowned as she opened the app, seeing that the issue was in the library but couldn't look any farther as to what it was exactly. "What the fuck..." she got off the couch and forced her feet into her shoes as she dialed the number to the schools security guard, tucking the phone against her ear with her shoulder as she waited for William to answer.

Elizabeth rolled her eyes, “I didn’t, but go off. If you really feel that way, then don’t drink it.” She felt the moment of ease pop like a bubble from his words and she knew he would always be her rival forever. “I wouldn’t poison you anyways, that’s cheating.” She wanted to beat him fair and square, not use outside forces to come out on top.
William yawned as he walked the halls of the darkened school, checking each room before moving on. He had to get used to these late nights again, downing the last of his coffee before making it to the door he always looked out of because it faced the girl’s dorm. He hoped Jessie was up there, safe and sound, and stayed unaware that he’d taken up the night shift guard duty here at her school. Just as he was about to turn around and continue his rounds, he heard his phone ring. “This is Will.”

"I was joking, don't get your panties in a twist." Lewis scoffed and took a sip from his soda, thinking it had to be exhausting to be so uptight but then again it wasn't like he was low key all the time. He reached down and scratched at the carpet in a way to distract himself.
"Hey Will, it's Aleah," she replied as she looked for her keys, a frown crossing her face when she couldn't find them in their usual space. "I don't know if you got the notification or not but I got an alert that there's movement in the library after it's been locked up. I'm gonna be on my way to the school in a minute and figured we could both check it out to see what's going on."

Elizabeth frowned, feeling like he wouldn’t joke with her, they’d never had that sort of relationship. Unless she was letting herself overthink things again, which wasn’t unusual when she was working hard, and it was the end of the semester. She heard him scratching the carpet and she opened her mouth to ask him what he was doing, then stopped herself. “What do you do to relax.” It wasn’t really a question, but she figured if he was as high strung as she was, maybe he had ways to let loose.
Aleah, the principal. Will hadn’t met her yet, he’d been hired by an outside source, and given great references. “I don’t think I get the alarm notifications on my phone yet.” He was on a trial run, this was his second week, and he was sure after that he’d be given more responsibility as well as the alarm codes. “I’ll head immediately there.” He hoped it was nothing, a faulty wire, maybe a rat or some kids who were goofing off and actually nothing horrendous. He had to keep his thoughts from going to that dark place it did when it came to the safety of Jessie.

Lewis glanced over at her, raising an eyebrow, "relax? What's that?" He asked back with a slight frown before glancing back at the spot on the carpet he was picking at as he tried to wrack his brain but only came to realize he didn't do much outside of studying or playing sports and minding his sisters when he needed to. "Read I guess, sometimes I play video games....what about you?"
"Alright, I'll meet you there." Aleah told him with a slight frown, thinking that he should have some form of alerts on his phone despite his short term with the school. She hung up her phone and hurried outside to her car but when she tried to start it up, nothing happened. Aleah cursed to herself and pressed the button for the garage door, ducking inside when the door was half open and grabbed her motorcycle, wheeling it out onto the drive way and pressing the button for the garage door to close. She started up her motorcycle and headed towards the school, eventually parking and pulling off her helmet, heading towards the library and looking around for Will.
