Classes had ended hours ago, and the sun was slowly disappearing behind the horizon when Matthew finally slid into a seat. He had wanted to come draw more of the buildings and the fountain today, but the school counselor had wanted to talk to him. It took longer than he expected, but he was happy to see there weren’t a lot of people around, as the shops started to slowly close up. Matthew got as comfy as he could in the chairs outside the ice cream shoppe, and pulled out his sketch pad, planning to draw the fountain and building behind it.

With her homework done and her friends off doing God knows what Ciera found herself feeling antsy in her room. No amount of background noise from the tv or the window being open could keep her from longing for more until finally she gathered one of her notebooks with a pen stuck in the spiral spine and left her room. She wasn't sure where exactly she was going but ended up in town, peering at a few store front before finally coming to the center of the shops where a large fountain was. She paused, looking at the fountain and its little statues and decor, admiring the look, oblivious to anyone else around, until finally going and sitting on the edge. She crossed one leg over the other, uncapped her pen and popped open her notebook, starting to write as the bubbling of the fountain finally calmed her anxious feelings.

Matthew looked down at his sketch pad for what he thought was just a few seconds, because the next time he looked up at the fountain, someone was sitting in the edge. He stared at the girl, bent over her own notebook and writing. He watched her hair billow around her with the small breeze that blew every few seconds, and strangely he found himself turning to a clean page. He hardly drew people, they were difficult and nothing like buildings and landscapes, but his pencil slid along the page with ease as he drew her face, the slope of her nose, the curve of her lips, and her billowing hair around her.

Once she started writing Ciera was even more oblivious to the world. She hooked a lock of hair behind her ear as she focused on writing a scene that had been playing out in her mind for days, making her smile as she crafted a sweet love scene between her two characters. The land of make believe had always been more fun for her, crafting a safe space for her whether she was writing or reading.

Matthew stared down at his sketchbook, surprised at how well he'd done on the drawing, but as he stared at the face on the page, he felt something stir in his chest that had him standing up and walking over to her. He hesitated though a few steps away from her, looking around the area before stopping in front of her. "Um. Hi." He said, feeling suddenly nervous, though he wasn't sure why. It could be due to the fact that he was a complete stranger who just drew her for no reason other than she struck him the need to, but some women might find that a little creepy.

As she wrote everything continued to fade away, her concentration only on the world she was building. She didn't notice as she was left in the area with only one other person...until they walked up to her and said hi. A small frown pulled down at her lips, but more in concentration. She finished up her sentence before looking up at the person who had greeted her. Her eyes widened, breath catching in her throat as Matthew stood, backlit by the sun. It felt like, for a moment, she was transported into one of her romance novels. "H-hi." She said, trying to calm her frantic heart as she wondered what was about to happen.

Matthew felt like it took ages for her to respond to him, figuring she was deep in thought with whatever she was working on, though he felt awkward waiting. He smiled when she finally looked up at him and said hi. "Hi, sorry to bother you," He said, opening his sketchbook and ripping the page he'd just drawn out of it. "Just, wanted to give you this." he said softly, worried she'd look at his drawing of her and freak out.

"Oh, it's okay." Ciera said, closing her notebook as she watches him tear a page out of his book and handed it to her. She carefully it, eyes widening when she saw what he drew,"oh wow..." She said softly, "this is... amazing." She looked up at him, offering a soft smile, "thank you."

Matthew wasn't sure if she was being genuine in her compliments, but he gave her a small smile, knowing he was pretty proud of it. "Sorry if it's totally creepy of me to draw you, it was kind of hard not to draw a gorgeous girl." He felt his face flushed a little, but he kept his eyes on her face, knowing that he was being genuine, she was beautiful, and he'd met a lot of women around the world.

Was it creepy to be drawn by a random guy? Yeah it was, but did it help that the guy was hot and seemed to be her age? Yeah, it did. She held like her face was on fire from his compliment, sure it was bright red. "I, oh, thank you..." She looked down at the picture he'd drawn again, feeling at a loss for words so she tried to think about what would happen if she was writing this scene. She looked up at Matthew again and smiled shyly, "I think it's sweet, not creepy...though there is one problem," she said, holding out the picture to him and pointing at the bottom corner, "every piece of art needs a signature from the artist."

Matthew felt awkward, mostly because he wasn't sure how to respond, since this was the first time he'd given his art away. "You're welcome, I’m glad you don't think it's creepy." He chuckled, though held his breath when she said there was one problem, wondering if she was going to start screaming to get away from her. "Ah, see. This is the first piece I've given to someone other than my mom so, forgot to sign it." most of his art pieces were just practice, learning the lines of buildings, so there wasn't a point to signing it, but he took the paper back from her and signed it using his sketchbook. "Here you go." he held it back out to her, hoping his signature didn't look stupid.

"No, I think it's kind of sweet." Ciera smiled up at him, her gaze softening when he mentioned his mom, "well, I'm honored then," she took the paper back, eyes darting directly to his name, "Matthew." She tucked the drawing between the pages of her notebook where it would be safe then balanced the pen on top before holding out her hand to him. "I'm Ciera."

Matthew straightened a little when se said it was sweet, wondering if he could have tried this with other girls before, though he was still shocked that the drawing came out so well. He took her hand and shook it, noting where she had placed her new art piece. "Nice to meet you," He asked, looking her over quickly, "Are you going to Mountain Ridge perhaps?" he asked, thinking she was high school age, maybe even his grade.

"It's nice to meet you too." She smiled kindly, setting her hand down on top of her notebook. "I do go to Graymore, I'm a senior. Do you?" She asked, wondering if she'd see him around after today though part of her panicked about the potential of him being an adult while she was still a minor. That would make things really awkward.

Matthew perked up a little when she said she was a Senior, "So I'm not the only Senior starting out their last year in a different school," He chuckled, knowing he had a new school every two years for the past ten years, so he was used to being the new kid. "Do you want to join me at the ice cream shop? The seats are a little more comfortable." He suggested as he pointed over to the table he had been at when he first arrived.

Ciera smiled softly at him, "well, I've been going there since I was a Freshman." She told him, almost wishing she had started going to the school this year, she could have avoided al the drama from before but then again...she wouldn't have the couple of friends that she had now. "Oh," she looked at the ice cream shop then back to him, "sure." she replied as she got up, dusting herself off a little but with her free hand as she tucked her notebook under her arm.

“Ah, well. Never mind then,” Matthew laughed nervously, though he knew one of his roommates was also a new Senior too, he had slightly hoped they wouldn’t be the only two. “But that means you can tell me the ins and outs of the school.” He joked, though hoped she had some pointers for him since she’d been attending much longer. He took a seat at the table and placed his sketchbook down, not really feeling the desire to draw at the moment.

Ciera sat down across from him, setting down her notebook next to his sketchbook and tucked her hair behind her ear. "I could give you a heads up, but where's the fun in that?" She asked teasingly. She thought back to when she first started at Mountain Ridge, it would have been nice to have a guide to get her through the ins and out of the place so her heart went out to him a little. "If you have home ec just make sure you're never late, if you are, you'll be forced to stand at the front of the class and be the teachers assistant the whole time....I'm totally not talking from experience." She laughed.

Matthew chuckled, "I guess you have a point, I should experience things on my own," he teased, though figured if there was something really bad to deal with at this school, she'd tell him. He stared at her when she talked about the Home Ec class, "Oh, that sounds… Fun." Part of him didn't hate the idea, thinking he'd actually learn something, but the other part of him was terrified of being up front of the class, especially when he didn't know anyone.

"It's awful, the teacher is like Gordon Ramsey, and it's way worse in person." She said with a little laugh, but the class had been good overall. She had learned how to make some good good and how to be on time, it only took one time for her to learn to never be late again. "Also, don't eat the pudding in the cafeteria," she said with a slight grimace, "no matter what flavor. It won't end up good."

“Okay, but if there’s one chef I’d want to teach me, it would be Gordon Ramsey,” Matthew laughed, knowing he’d probably yell at him, call him an idiot sandwich, and fire him from the class, but he’d hope he’d learn at least the basics on cooking. He grimaced at the pudding note, “How can you fuck up pudding.” He of course only knew pudding from a package, but even that was hard to mess up.

"True, but I do like Bobby Flay, he seems like a nice guy who knows what he's talking about. oh or Guy Fieri," she perked up a little as she thought about different chefs that she and he mom would watch together back home. "Look, I have no idea what they do to it but just don't eat it unless you need a colon cleanse or an excuse to get out of classes for the rest of the day." She grimaced. "And if you're going to enroll in art class make sure you have Miss. Bridges, she's a little eclectic but she's the most encouraging and sweetest person I've ever met."

"There are definitely a lot of chefs out there to pick before deciding to go with Gordon Ramsey," Matthew remembered watching Iron Chef for hours with his grandma when they were visiting his grandparents one hot Florida summer. He felt like he was going to melt just like the food on the show. He shook his head, not needing to deal with sitting on the toilet all day, thinking a colon cleanse would just be the death of him instead of helpful, though a useful excuse would be nice. "I might grab one or two for test days." he joked, not really wanting to actually go through with the deal to get a day off of school, but with his mom he'd never been able to lie about being sick unless he had a fever or was actually vomiting. "Ah, yes. I have art, but it's with a Mr. Ruth?" he wondered if he should see if he could switch teachers, though he figured it was already too late.

She laughed at his joke, "hey, that's your funeral." She joked, thinking if she was ever going to try it she would have to have something really good to avoid. "Oh, Mr. Ruth is awesome too," she said, "I've just had Miss. Bridges more but both of them are a million times better than Mr. Harts class, he tries but he's also one of those teachers who kind of...does the bar minimum, I'm not sure if he really wants to teach, he kind of does his own thing and leaves everyone else to do whatever." Which was fine, unless you really wanted to learn and didn't mind people being obnoxious.

Matthew chuckled awkwardly, looking down at his hands as he thought about his mother, over in Germany, taking care of the last of their things after the death of his father. He cleared his throat, glad for the topic change, "That's good to know, I was afraid he'd be the worst and I wouldn't be able to change classes." Though if Mr. Harts was the low bar kind of teacher, it might give him more time to draw what he wanted instead of class assignments. "Maybe I should have picked his class then, work on my art." He joked, knowing he'd need art classes to go into what he wanted for a career.

"Mr. Ruth is good, he can be pretty funny, sometimes he has to bring his kids with him to class and we get to do little projects with them." She explained, enjoying those days where she didn't really have to use her brain and instead just finger paint. She looked over at Matthew curiously, "what all do you like to do? Do you only draw?" She asked, finding herself better at 3D art rather than the kind that made her sit down and try to draw a straight line, which she typically failed at.

Matthew nodded his head, wondering how often he could take advantage of his daughters coming in to draw what he wanted. "Oh, I like to play and watch sports, um. Video games," He chuckled, knowing that sounded like the typical guy answer, but he liked other things too. "I'm also a huge Harry Potter nerd." he joked, even though he'd gone to Universal all dressed up.

Ciera nodded, she could have guessed those hobbies, not that she was judging. She was sure there were things that she liked to do that a lot of other girls liked as well. She did, however, perk up when he mentioned Harry Potter. "Me too," she smiled, "well, I mean, I don't know like every little fun fact about it but I like it enough to have read all the books and watched all the movies and took the sorting house quiz..."

"Ah, so you haven't been sucked in yet," Matthew chuckled, glad she'd read the books and he didn't have to convince her to like he had for people in the past. "What house were you sorted into?" he asked, always curious to find out, though he took a shot in the dark in his head and guessed Hufflepuff. He could be completely wrong and she could be in Slytherin, but she didn't come across as one to him.

"Not fully," she laughed, "but I like some of the Lego sets they have." She said, having a few small ones set up on her shelves but nothing too crazy. She glanced up at Matthew when he asked what house she was in, her lips curling up into a smile. "Tell me which one you think I am and I'll tell you if you're right or not." She said, wondering if he'd want to play the game.
