Cosette narrowed her eyes at Aleah but didn’t say anymore on the subject. If she and Aleah had plans, she wouldn’t ditch her for anyone, even Silas. It wasn’t likely they’d ever go to lunch again, even if she still owed him. “Plan for next year, I can tell you all the best spots in Paris.” She smiled, thinking she could at least remember Paris through Aleah, if she went.

Aleah perked up a little, that did sound like a good idea to her, with an insiders guidance she had a feeling that it would end up being a worthy trip. "Sounds like a good idea to me." She smiled as their walk took them back to the building that held Cosette's classroom and where her bike was. She was about to say something else when her phone buzzed. She took it out, frowning slightly at the name of the person who texted her before shoving her phone back into her pocket. "We'll have to talk about this later if that's alright, something came up and I need to head home but we could go out for lunch on Friday? Around 1?"

“I’ll write some towns and places to visit, names too. They’ll know who I am,” Cosette was sure her friends and family would open their doors for Aleah, especially if she gave them a heads up. She frowned slightly when Aleah got a text and ignored it, curiosity making her wonder who it was from, but didn’t pry. It wasn’t her business. “No worries, Friday sounds good. I hope every things alright.” She hoped nothing series came up.

Aleah shook her head, "everything's fine...I think, one of my brothers just texted me and said he was at my house...which doesn't make sense. He's supposed to be back in Montana." She said with a slight frown, it would make sense if it was Beck who was here but Charlie? He was supposed to be back home with his witch of a wife so why would he be all the way out here? God she hoped Yasmine wasn't with him.

“Oh, a nice surprise visit from family. Don’t worry, have fun.” Cosette didn’t want to get in the way, wishing she could see her family, her sister, and parents. Thinking about her classroom had reminded her of the prank that now sat at the back of her car, and she frowned at the fact that Silas wasn’t there for her to use it on him. “See you Friday.” She waved.

"We'll see." Aleah laughed a little, anxiety making her stomach churn but she hoped everything would turn out okay. "I'll see you Friday, I'm glad to have you here." She smiled before walking over to her bike and pulling on her helmet. She started up her bike and turned, leaving the parking lot and heading home, her brows furrowed behind her visor.

Cosette watched Aleah head for her bike before she started making her way back to her classroom to grab her purse and head back home to do nothing. The thought of taking a ride before popped into her head, and she figured since she was here, she might as well. Once she grabbed her purse and locked up, she headed outside towards her car, getting ready to head for the barn.

Back at the barn Silas had pulled in right after the girls left, not having seen them and had gotten to work. He let out a few of the horses and started to clean out the stalls, listening to some music that was playing from his phone in his back pocket. His whistling soon turned into a soft singing as he went but after away the work and stuffiness of the barn made him hot. He stopped his work, pulling off his shirt and tossing it over the side of the stall before he resumed his work, getting one of the stalls clean and heading to the back of the barn to get some bedding, loading up a wheel barrow and pushing it down the main stretch of the barn towards the stall, glad to have some peace and quiet where he could get in the zone and focus just on work.

Cosette pulled into the parking lot of the barn and smiled when she saw Silas’s truck. She wasn’t sure when he showed up, but she was excited to play the prank. She opened the door and looked around, hearing music come down one of the aisles. “Hello?” She called out, letting the door close behind her as she carried her riding boots towards Estella’s stall.

Being focused on his work and the song that was playing Silas didn't hear Cosette as she came into the barn. He spread the bedding along the empty stall then stepped out, grabbing the wheelbarrow when he happened to glance down the rows of stalls to see Cosette and smiled. He reached around, stopping the music coming from his phone, "hey Cosette, I didn't hear you come in!"

Cosette spotted Silas before he noticed she was there and felt her entire body turn bright red with heat at his shirtless chest. Her mouth felt dry as she drank him in, though had to quickly shake her head when he spoke. “Hey, I just, um, got here.” She said, averting her eyes, acting like she as looking at the stall next to her that was empty of a horse. “Wanted to go for a ride before heading home.” She forced herself to say, just to keep herself from doing something stupid.

For a moment Silas had forgotten that he was shirtless and the way she seemed to stare at him mad him look down and remember what he had done, his face turning a little red from embarrassment. "Oh, a ride sounds good." He tried to remain casual as he grabbed his shirt and pulled it on.

Cosette forced herself to stare at the floor in front of Silas, though her eyes crept up a little to watch his chest vanish beneath his shirt. She felt a little disappointed about it, but knew she needed to keep things professional between them. “I do have a heavy box I need your help carrying in, whenever you have a moment.” She didn’t want to take him away from his current job, but a small smile grew on her face at the small pencil box in her trunk.

"Oh?" Silas felt a creeping disappointment up his back but brushed it off, not sure what he was expecting exactly. He straightened his shirt a little, brushing off some loose bedding and smiled, "lucky for you I have some time that I can spare, I've just been cleaning out a few of the stalls."

“Do you need help cleaning? I can do a stall.” Cosette had already taken care of Estella’s, but she didn’t have a problem with cleaning another stall if it helped him out. “And I won’t take no from you. I’ll do something to help.” She smiled, beaming proudly, not willing to let him just do all the work by himself.

Silas was about to tell her she didn't need to but she was already pushing ahead and making it clear that no matter what he said she'd find a way to help. He laughed a little, "well, if you really want to help you can help me finish cleaning out this row of stalls, but just remember that you insisted." He teased, "there's ac in here but it's not the best when you're mucking out the stalls."

Cosette nodded and set her things aside, sitting down to change her shoes into her riding boots, not wanting to get her shoes dirty. “When did you show up? I was actually just down here with Aleah.” Though they did walk back and forth, it was probably shortly after they had left. Once she had her boots on, she stood up, putting her hair up into a ponytail, though a few pieces fell out.

"Oh, probably twenty minutes ago." He told her, finding it kind of funny that their paths had almost crossed only to inevitably cross again. "Did you have a little welcome meeting?" He asked, remembering his own but then again that had been far before Aleah had become the principal of the school. His gaze trailed along the loose pieces of her hair but he quickly snapped back to reality and focused in on his work.

Cosette nodded, trying to think about where she and Aleah were twenty minutes ago, but that seemed so long in the past she couldn’t remember. “Yeah, I kind of forced her to come meet Estella,” It was mostly a distraction from how worried she was about teaching students and how little she had for them to do. She picked up a shovel and started getting to work on one of the stalls he pointed out. “What’s your plan after mucking out stalls?” she asked, wondering if he’d like to go for a ride again.

"Really? She rarely comes around the stables," Silas chuckled, chalking it up to her being nervous around big animals, which he could understand to an extent. He turned his attention back to the stalls, finishing up this one and moving on to the one on the other side of Cosette. "I was probably going to go for a ride, it's hard to come here and not go out for a little bit." He chuckled.

“I sort of panicked and asked her out of the blue,” Cosette wondered if she had startled Aleah with her request that she said yes without thinking. She wasn’t sure she could convince Aleah to come down here again, but she’d always be willing. She perked up when he said he was going ride after, “Well, if you don’t mind, I’d like to tag along.” She still didn’t know the trails that well, and didn’t want to get lost.

Silas laughed, "you don't have to be anxious around Aleah, she's pretty chill and accepting." He told her as he started to clean out the stall. He paused when she offered to come along, unable to stop himself from smiling. "Sure, I don't mind if you come with."

Cosette hoped that she would bee chill, especially since this was her first ever year teaching. “We’ll see how chill she is when all my students fail because of me.” She joked, trying to laugh at something she didn’t think would happen. She smiled when he didn’t object to her joining him, “I’ve been meaning to try out one of the trails.”

Silas couldn't help but laugh, shaking his head, "I'm sure your students will be fine, just follow your lesson plans and do your best, it'll work itself out." He told her, knowing it was easier said than done but he wanted to encourage her. "Well we could go on one of them," he replied, "is there a particular one that catches your interest?"

Cosette tossed the last shovel load out of the stall and stood, leaning on the handle. “Well, I know I can at least teach riding lessons.” She chuckled, wondering how many students would sign up for that. Since Silas still taught students, it must mean kids were wanting to. She tilted her head in thought, “I honestly haven’t looked at them closely, but I know there’s one that leads to a pond.” She wouldn’t mind checking that out.

"That's true, so if you suck at teaching French at least you can be out here." Silas joked, wondering how many students would want to learn to ride from Cosette, he was sure a few girls would be curious about the different style. "There is the one that goes to the pond," he agreed, "and another that goes through the more forested the area, and a third that goes around the pastures." He explained, the last one being the longest of the three but the most flat.

Cosette laughed, hoping that if she did fail at teaching French she’d have riding to fall back on. “And get to spend more time in the barn? Yes please.” She laughed again, though part of her really wanted not to leave this gorgeous barn, and maybe Silas either. “I’d probably use the last option for the cross-country race, but that won’t be for a while.” At least, not for students learning to ride, she’d have to see if Shannon was going to compete in it before setting it up.

Silas chuckled, he understood the sentiment but was lucky since he ended up spending a lot of time in a barn or two thanks to his job here and at home. He tilted his head at the mention of a cross-country race, "that isn't a bad idea, could get the school some good attention, maybe some financial donations and could get more kids interested in riding." He told her, sure Eva would be easy to convince.

Cosette sat up and blinked her eyes a few times, wondering what he meant by a good idea, “Like, a major race? I was just thinking of doing it for a grade,” She chuckled, but realized if she could find a prize, maybe students would want to ride for it, and maybe enjoy the class. “Can we take the flat path tuday?”

"It could start out as a grade but I bet it could become something more." He replied, thinking there had to be someone who'd hear about it and would want to do something to make them feel important. He filled the wheel barrow with refuse and grabbed its handles, pausing to look at Cosette. "Sure, shouldn't be a problem." He flashed her a smile before pushing the wheel barrow outside.
