“Really? I’d totally be down to go,” Gavin bet he could even rent out the place so he wouldn’t have to worry about other people in the same place. He wondered if Sydney would want to go, though he knew video games weren’t her thing. “I love arcades, the bigger, the better.” He loved the two-story arcade back home, it was usually where he spent his summers when he wasn’t at football camp.

Erick nodded with a bit of excitement, "we should go then! It'd be a lot of fun." He said, toeing a rock near him, "it sounds better than being out here all the time being eaten by mosquitos." He joked, not minding being outside but without being in front of a beach made it less exciting.

“I wish we could go, but I do like camp. Well, better than the last camp I went to.” Gavin grimaced at the thought of going back to football camp next summer, but knew his dad would want him to at least go for a few weeks. He stopped when he noticed a few people standing around talking, “There it is.” He said, pointing towards the flag, tied to the branch of a tree right behind the group talking. “We need a plan to steal it.” He wasn’t sure a diversion would work, but they needed to think of something.

Erick nodded, "it not that bad...the mosquitos just eat me alive and I was told to watch out for poison ivy, apparently it's along a bunch of trails." He had no idea what poison ivy looked like so he figured he'd just avoid the paths for the time being. He looked at where Gavin was pointing then at the group around it, tilting his head, "I can run past them like an idiot to distract them," he offered.

Gavin hadn’t thought about poison ivy, making him look around quickly, though he didn’t see any nearby. When he felt the coast was clear, he turned back to Erick, “Good idea, but we need all of them to leave…” He looked down at his shirt, then up at the flag, noticing both were black. “Here, take this and act like you have the flag.” Gavin took his shirt off and handed it over, planning to sneak around from behind and snatch the actual flag. “Hopefully they wont think to look back.”

Erick stared at Gavin as he took off his shirt, at first surprise then tried to hold back laughter at the cleverness of it. "I'll try to make sure they don't." He took the shirt, bundling most of it in his hand, trying to make it look like it had the same amount of fabric as the flag and gave it a good shake. "Better go hide so they don't get see you and get suspicious."

Gavin was glad Erick caught on to his plan quickly as he started balling up his shirt as if it was the flag. He nodded his head and moved to hide a few feet behind the real flag, ready to grab it the second Erick drew everyone’s attention. He gave Erik a thumbs up to signal he was ready, and it was his turn to run.

Seeing Gavin's thumbs up Erick nodded, taking a deep breath before turning to the group that he was supposed to distract. He slapped a grin on his face and took off running, waving the shirt in the air as he shouted: "PAY BETTER ATTENTION NEXT TIME!" He cackled, not daring to look back as he ran but he could hear the foot steps thundering behind him, triggering a slight panic but it was too late to go back now, he just hoped he wouldn't trip and fall right on his face.

Slowly but surely, the area emptied as everyone assumed Erick had the flag and it wasn’t a trick. Gavin grabbed the flag from the branch and headed back towards their own camp, wondering if this would mean this was the end of the game, though he was ready to head back to his cabin. “Erick, did you lose them?” He asked out loud as he looked around for his friend, unsure if he had found his way back to their side of the field or not.

"NO!" Erick shouted as he ran, at first this idea had been fun but with the group behind him only getting bigger he started to panic, getting turned around in his run and not realizing how badly he had screwed up until he had heard-and seen-Gavin. "RUN!" He shouted, willing himself to go faster as the shirt waved in his hand, feeling like he was in some god awful comedy scene where the main character was in a sticky situation they weren't able to get free from.

Gavin wasn’t prepared for Erick to come screaming out of nowhere, then noticed the three guys still chasing him. “Shit.” He said, trying hard to hide the fact he had the flag, “I’ll meet you back at our flag!” he called out, darting in a different direction, hearing at least one of them come barreling down after him. He didn’t look back, something his dad told him when he started teaching him to play football, only look back if you don’t have the ball, and he had the flag so he ran all the way back to where a few of his other teammates were guarding their flag.

"Sorry!" Erick yelled back to Gavin, hoping he didn't screw all of this up for them but he couldn't waste time, continuing to run with the people crashing behind him. The only thing that got him to stop was when he heard a group of people cheering and the foot steps behind him stopping. He turned around, still running until he got back to the base of his team, a grin crossing his face as his chest heaved while his teammates cheered for their victory.

Gavin reached the base just a few minutes before Erick did, hearing his teammates chant about how they won the game, even though he and Erick had done most of the work. “Woo, thought you were a goner in there.” He admitted, holding his hand out to take his shirt back from Erick as he tossed the other team's flag to someone else to celebrate with.

"Dude," Erick gasped but managed to laugh, "I thought I was too." He said and gave Gavin his shirt back, feeling a bit of pride at having helped win the game. It was some kind of miracle that he'd managed to run all of that without falling or making some kind of fool of himself. "I think we deserve an award or something." He joked.

Gavin slipped his shirt over his head, feeling grateful to cover up, feeling a few eyes staring at him. He didn’t like the attention and fiddled with his glasses nervously. “I wasn’t sure which way you had gone, I guess I picked the right way though,” Even though he had someone chasing after him the whole way. He still made it, glad for once, for football training him.

"Yeah," Erick laughed, "you got lucky." He looked around as their teams cheers calmed down and break into smaller groups and he frowned a little bit. "So...since we captured the flag or whatever, what do we do now? Are we done and get to escape?" He joked, not sure what he would do next.

Gavin wouldn’t call it luck, since he had to run and keep in shape for football, but he nodded his head along with Erick, feeling his heartbeat start to slow down. “I think we can set up to play again, but I’m done to be honest.” He sighed, not wanting to run again, plus, he and Erick technically won it.

Erick could have fallen down in relief when he said he was done with this whole thing. "Cool, cuz I am too, I'm definitely going to feel this in the morning." He joked a bit, but really he was hoping to go find a good place to chill, even though he wasn't sure where to find one.

Gavin chuckled, “I need to relax and chill, might play some video games in the shade.” He could easily grab his switch, but he didn’t want to risk staying in the cabin in case a counselor walked through and dragged him to some other activity he didn’t want to do. “Wonder if the hammocks are open.” Usually he was left alone there, somehow it was considered an activity, though all you were doing was swaying in some fabric.

Erick perked up a little, "you have a console out here?" He asked, thinking the guy was pretty lucky-and smart to bring something like that here to kill the time. He wasn't sure what he was going to do but he didn't want to bother the other guy, even though they seemed to get along decently so far.

Gavin turned to Erick with a frown, “It’s just my switch,” He shrugged, as if that wasn’t that big of a deal. Right now, his computer and the rest of his consoles, sat in storage waiting to be moved into his dorm when they were finally allowed to move in. He wasn’t sure if it was against the rules and that was the reason for his reaction, but he hadn’t seen anything saying he couldn’t have it. “Want to play? I have Mario Kart.” He had several other games for to players, but everyone knew Mario Kart.

Erick felt his throat tighten a little when Gavin frowned at him, wondering if he had warn out his welcome. A Switch was pretty cool, like most gaming systems he'd wanted it as soon as it had come out but it wasn't like his family was in the position to spend money on something like it. He was about to speak when Gavin offered to play with him and couldn't help but grin, "sure, that would be fun."

Gavin was slightly worried that Erick would say no, since they weren’t friends or anything, why bother sticking around. They had fun though, he thought, with the whole capture the flag game, but that didn’t mean they were best buds now. He was ready to resign to just playing Animal Crossing when he said it would be fun to play, “Alright, we should hide out somewhere. The cabins aren’t safe from counselors.” He grimaced at the thought of getting caught playing video games when they were technically supposed to be enjoying the fresh air.

Erick nodded quickly, he'd hate it if they got caught and the counselors look away the Switch for the summer, and would also feel guilty about it. "Okay, so we gotta find a good place," he frowned a little as he thought, "I should really listen to my brother, he's been going on random hikes and telling me about places around here but...uh...I kind of zone out when he talks." He grimaced a little but hey it wasn't his fault, his brother usually was scolding him about something or droning on about something he didn't find interesting.

Gavin raised an eyebrow, not wanting to spend thirty minutes hiking to a spot, but maybe if it means no counselors at all, he’d consider it. He chuckled, betting that Erick would zone out in class too, “Well, I’ve been able to hide out at the hammocks, they only like to hang out there at night.” He as sure they were drinking, out of sight of the older adults in charge.

Erick nodded, wondering how that would work set up wise but he would roll with it. "Okay, we can go over there then." He agreed, not opposed to relaxing while playing the game.

“Just gotta stop by my cabin real quick, grab the switch,” Gavin jogged lightly over to the boys cabin, looking around and find the place empty, he made his way over to his cabin and slipped inside. A few minutes later he slipped out with his Switch case. “Grabbed some other multiplayer games, in case Mario Kart gets boring,” he smiled as he joined Erick back outside and headed for the hammocks. “What’s it like, having an older brother?” he asked, wondering if his life would have been different had he ben the second born.

Erick nodded, meandering over to a tree to wait, peering up at the branches and wondering if a squirrel had ever jumped down on top of anyone. The idea made him shudder. He looked back at Gavin with a grin, "sweet." He followed by Gavin's side, taking a moment before responding. "It's nice, I mean we have pretty different personalities but I know he's got my back and I have his." He said, not adding that at least his older brother set him up for higher expectations.

Gavin led the way over to the hammocks, glad to see no one was hanging out there or nearby. He assumed everyone was dragged to other events or hiding. “That must be nice.” He was ready to change the subject and was glad that they reached the hammocks. “Normally I hang out in the hammock, but it might be difficult if we plan to play Mario Kart.” The good news was the area also had these weird bean bag seats that were comfy enough. He plopped down and started setting up his switch for the two of them to play on a stump turned table.

Erick followed after Gavin, relieved when he saw the bean bag chairs and sat down by Gavin, leaning back a little. He looked around, seeing peeks of the ocean through the line of trees, "this is a pretty sweet place to game." He said, hoping the batteries lasted long on the Switch.
