Campers were given the choice today of either flag football, kayaking, or capture the flag. Gavin had already kayaked earlier this week and wasn't feeling the desire to get dumped into the lake, and he wanted to stay away from anything related to football. So he found himself waiting to be picked for capture the flag, pushing rocks around on the gravel as the counselors went back and fourth until his name was called. He joined the group that was behind the counselor and looked around, not recognizing anyone, and suddenly wished he'd just stayed in his cabin playing video games. Now he was stuck with a bunch of campers he didn't know, playing a game that seemed fun, but he hardly played it before. He figured he could probably sneak off partway through the game and return to his cabin if it wasn't fun.

Erick had absolutely no idea what the fuck he was doing but he was pumped and ready to go, shifting a little from foot to foot. The action spurred by excitement but also from the way his shoes pinched his feet. Money had been tight lately and he hadn't wanted to stress her out more than she was. He loved his mom and like her he tended to bottle up his emotions. He tried to listen to what the counselor was saying but his mind couldn't seem to focus as he spotted a butterfly drift past. Only realizing it was time to play when the counselor clapped his hands. He looked over at the guy next to him, grimacing slightly "I have no idea what's going on except trying to get a flag or something..."

Gavin as planning his escape when the kid next to him said he had no idea what as going on, “Oh, have you not played capture the flag before?” He didn’t play the original version, there as one the coach had made up, but it as capture the football, and he randomly tossed it to someone and you had to run for a touchdown before getting tackled, but it wasn’t as fun. Gavin hated playing it when the ball was tossed to him, at least when it as tossed to another player, he could pretend to try and tackle them.

"Nope." Erick shook his head, some of his hair falling over his eyes, which he quickly pushed away. "I figured we...go and try to get the other flag? Or are they going to make us try to do something else?" He frowned a little bit, looking around as if he was trying to find the person in charge but couldn't pick out who that could be. "I thought this was a different game..." he trailed off as he tried to think of it then snapped his fingers, "I thought it was flag football!"

Gavin felt like Erick was busting with the energy his dad probably wanted him to have for football, and he couldn’t help the feeling of jealousy wash over him. He pushed it aside, knowing even if he had the same energy, he didn’t enjoy football at all. “Oh, I mean, we can try and steal it. I don’t know what the plan is actually.” He looked around with Erick, noticing the guy who had picked the teams as gathering them all up to do just that. “I guess we can see what they plan, but flag football was on the field, I think you can still make it.” He shrugged his shoulders, walking over to the group and listening in to the idea the counselor had. It wasn’t much of a plan, several students were picked to stay behind while the rest were sent out to scout for the other team or try and steal the flag. “Still want to stay?” He wouldn’t blame him if he went to find the flag football group.

Erick blinked a couple times, looking from Gavin to the group then to where he said flag football would be. He thought abut leaving but he was already here so what was the point? He trailed after Gavin to the group, leaning in a little to listen to the plan. "Oh," he scratched the book of his neck, "I'm already here so why not, there'll be other days to play flag football." He figured though, if this wasn't as fun as it seemed to be it wasn't like he could be stopped from just leaving.

Gavin knew Erick as right, there was a game at least twice a week and the last week as a tournament between teams. He told his dad he’d play, but he hadn’t done it yet, and didn’t really have a plan to. “Alright, I guess we’ll go try and steal the flag.” He shrugged his shoulders, watching as the rest of the group spread out, some in groups, as they headed over to the other team’s camp.

Erick looked at Gavin, frowning a little bit, "you don't seem that excited about it." He said, more so stated but there wasn't malice behind it. He was a simple boy that lacked a filter most of the time, especially since that was the best way for him to talk to his older brother, Tyson wasn't the best at understanding sarcasm so he'd had to adjust his manner of speaking to avoid irritating his brother.

Gavin shrugged, “I was kind of forced into this, I would rather just play video games.” He admitted, feeling like most people now a days judged someone who wanted to play games all the time. “But I guess sunshine is good for me.” He smirked, seeing as they now entered the tree cover. He held out his hand to Erick and smiled. “Gavin.” He introduced himself.

Erick figured that a counselor had forced Gavin into this, that seemed like the most likely reason why he would be here if he really didn't want to be. At least he had that excuse instead of his reason being a scattered brain that couldn't seem to focus. "Yeah, I guess," he smiled slightly and shook his hand, "Erick."

Gavin shook Erick’s hand, “Alright Erick. Are you from around here?” he asked, having found a few of the campers were from the nearby town, but most weren’t. He also wondered if Erick was going to Mountain Ridge for Freshman year like him. He was slightly nervous about it, though knowing Sydney was too made him feel better that he at least knew one person.

"Nope, me and my brother are from Delaware." Erick replied, "since we're going to Mountain Ridge our Mom made us come to camp to try to make friends...which my brother sucks at." Erick laughed, it was true, Tyson had gone to Mountain Ridge longer than he had and only had one friend he could name, Erick was hoping that he would have more luck in that department. "What about you?"

“Nice, I’m from L.A., but um, my dad works in New York, and a few of his coworkers told him about this place.” Sure, it wasn’t the full truth, but Gavin wasn’t ready to tell anyone his dad played for the Giants. He wasn’t well known, and it used to shock him when people didn’t know, but now he liked the fact that he wasn’t a dead ringer for his dad. “To be fair to your brother, I’m not the best at making friends either.” Granted that might have been because he always had a video game in front of his face, but he was trying.

"Whoa, L.A. must be insane," Erick said, eyes widening a little, "I'm from a really small town so it's quiet." He explained, the one bonus to the town was that it was near the beach and the town had a lot of tourist shops which meant there was always something cool or weird going on. He glossed over the bit about Gavin's father, the one he'd had was trash so he didn't care much to hear about kids who got it better. "Well, we can be friends, even if we're stuck doing this." He shrugged, watching as the game started but didn't have much interest in running around.

“Yeah, it definitely not normal,” Gavin chuckled, feeling like every time he visited home something was happening. He’d rather stay in a small town where he wasn’t reminded of who his dad was and his legacy he would one day continue. He raised an eyebrow when he said they could be friends, wondering how that was possibly the easiest friend he ever made, if he was being serious. “I mean, do you want to be stuck doing this?” he asked, spotting several campers from the other team run through the forest towards their own flag.

Erick smiled and nodded, "yeah, I don't think I'm much of a city kid," but it wasn't like he went to the city all that often, only on the rare occasion when they had some spare money, which wasn't often. "Uh..." Erick looked around, spotting the other campers, "we could at least try I guess and if it sucks then we can dip."

“It’s not all it’s cracked up to be,” Gavin did enjoy the city lights, and the proximity of things, but that was about it. He slowly nodded at Ericks idea, thinking they could at least give the game a chance. “Alright, well. I’m pretty sure those two came from the direction, so let’s see if we can find their flag.” He pointed in the direction he thought the flag might be and started heading through the trees, trying to keep hidden.

Erick nodded, not thinking it was that great to live in the city. He could managing visits here and there but even then could be too much. "Okay, sounds like a plan to me." He agreed, creeping behind Gavin, looking around to make sure no one was following them or spotted them.

Gavin and Erick made their way through the trees, searching for the other team’s yellow flag. “So,” he said after a few minutes, “Why did your mom pick mountain ridge?” He asked, wondering if his dad had some say about it, though a sad thought entered his mind that his dad wasn’t around. Even though his dad and him didn’t see eye to eye on much, he couldn’t see not having him in his life.

"Oh," Erick shrugged, "she wanted us to see what life was like outside of our small town and my brother and I got scholarships, so it really isn't that crazy of a story." He looked around for the flag, frowning a little bit as his thoughts drifted to his father but he tried to focus on the flag and for one his short attention span helped with just that. "What about you?"

Gavin nodded his head, finding it funny that this town wasn’t considered small, though it was smaller than L.A. and maybe bigger than where Erick was from. “My mom wanted me to get out of L.A. mostly, a family friend’s daughter is also attending, so they figured we’d be friends.” He shrugged his shoulders, still debating on how Sydney was even going to make it in life, but she was at least sweet and funny, and didn’t expect him to play football.

Erick nodded slowly, "oh cool, the only person I know is my brother and his life is all about studying." He laughed, sure he'd do what he needed to keep his scholarship but he still wanted to run around and have fun experiencing life. "But I want to have fun, go to parties and whatever else I can do." He explained, sports weren't going to be it, he didn't have any talent in any sport he tried but he figured he'd be able to get involved in other activities.

Gavin felt his neck heat up with embarrassment, realizing that was him, always studying or playing video games. He wondered if Erik liked them, though he wondered if his ADHD made it difficult. He wasn’t sure he was the adventurous type, but he knew he couldn’t hide in his dorm the entire time, because he knew people talked, and when people talked, rumors got started. “What do you like to do for fun then?” he asked.

"I like to play video games, " Erick replied, feeling like that's what a lot of guys liked to do but there was something about a video game that helped him get lost...literally. He could follow missions but he was always that one who got distracted on side quests and exploring the world instead of saying on a direct path to the end. "Back home I used to surf...it's kind of the only sport I'm okay at, but I can't do that out here." He joked. "What about you?"

Gavin perked up when he said he liked video games, already starting a list of games he enjoyed, and wondered if he did too. “I like video games too, do have some favorites?” he asked, hoping a few of them would match up with his own. “I’ve never surfed before, even though I lived right by the beach.” Practically lived right off the beach, but he wasn’t big on the beach scene, though he liked cruising on his family’s boat.

"Oh," Erick perked up a bit, the game they were playing flushing out of his mind as he thought of his favorite video games, "well I don't have the newest console so I play a lot of the older stuff, but I like any of the Assassin's Creed games, Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, and Minecraft but I'll play almost anything." He said, bouncing a little on the balls of his feet, "what about you?"

Gavin had the latest everything, his mom somehow knew what was the latest in gaming, though he had suspicions it was her assistant who did it all. “Oh, I love the Assassin Creed games, big fan of Fallout, just about every shooting game, and lots of others.” He didn’t want to brag about how much he had, noting Erick had said they didn’t have the newest stuff, but if they were roommates, he wouldn’t mind sharing,

Erick nodded quickly, "yeah me too, I played Skyrim for a while but I kept getting distracted and explored instead of doing the quests." He laughed, wondering briefly when the last time he played was but couldn't remember. He shrugged off the memory, filing it under not important. "I've always wanted to try one of those virtual reality games, they seem trippy."

Gavin chuckled, “But that’s the best part in Skyrim,” Well, any open world game like that, it was always fun to run around the map, only doing the main quest if it suited his needs. “Oh, it’s trippy alright, one of my friends back home has one, and it was hard to get used to at first.” He lied slightly, thinking it was true since his friend had one, and he tried it before he got his, “A lot of fun games though.”

Erick grinned and nodded, glad the two of them could agree about Skyrim. His eyes widened a little when he said that he played one of those virtual reality games. "That's so cool, my brother said there's an arcade in town that has VR games so I've been saving up to go." Before camp he had thrown himself into a lucrative lawn mowing business for his neighborhood, which had managed to get him a decent amount of cash.
