Jessie stared down at all the outfits she had in her closet on the bed. She stared at the boots she bought, wondering if that was too much to wear, especially since she wasn’t a cowgirl, she just spoke with one. She moaned before grabbing her phone, blasting Blink-182 to help clear her mind and figure out what to wear. For now, she started working on her makeup and hair, wondering if that was something cowgirls did too, or did they not concern themselves with that? She didn’t want to be the odd one out, but already knew she probably would with her goth looking outfits.

Cordelia glanced up from where she was hunched over her desk, working on a painting for her art class when she heard Jessie playing music from her room. She raised an eyebrow, not annoyed in the least bit but rather curious about what her roommate was up to. She pushed away from her desk and walked from her room to Jessie's, knocking on the door as she walked in, looking around. "Got a hot date or something?" She asked, feeling at ease with Jessie, liking the girl the instant they had met.

Jessie didn’t hear the knock, but whipped her head around when she heard Cordelia. “Oh, not a date,” she said, hating how her cheeks flushed anyway even if it wasn’t a date. “I’m going to see Jake ride in the rodeo.” She and Jake had hung out at school a few times, they did have one or two classes together, so it wasn’t weird for her to be going to the rodeo, but she didn’t want everyone thinking it was a date, worried he’d freak out about it. “I don’t know what to wear.” She bit her lower lip in worry about the outfit situation, and if she was going to catch the bus there, she needed to figure it out soon.

"Mmhmm, one of the cute cowboys that seems to have ended up here." Cordelia smirked, flopping down on Jessie's bed. "Okay so, not date to the rodeo," she said, nodding as if she knew exactly what to do, "you're gonna want to wear something kind of warm...got any jeans that hug just the right places?" She asked, "could pair that with a cute top...which...you could play dumb...wear something like a crop top and then tell Jake you're 'so cold' and maybe borrow his jacket."

Jessie raised an eyebrow, “What’s that supposed to mean?” wondering if that was a good thing or a bad thing that he was one of the cowboys. She smirked and shook her head, “It’s not like that, we’re just friends.” She didn’t want to romanticize something that might not be there. Even if she really liked Jakes’ company, enjoyed sharing her headphones to listen to a podcast she was deep into, and yes, she had seen him play a game or two this season. She looked over her options before grabbing a few things. She didn’t own that many pairs of jeans and she wasn’t sure how it would look on her. “What about this?”

"It means I wasn't ready to see hot cowboys when I moved up here, a warning could have been nice." Cordelia laughed, a smirk on her face when she said they were just friends, mentally adding a for now on the end of that sentence but couldn't bring herself to say it, not wanting to make her new friend self conscious. She sat up and looked at the outfit that Jessie held out, quickly nodding her head. "I think it's perfect, you just gotta put it on to see if it's really the one."

Jessie shook her head but smiled, “I had no idea they all would be here,” Though Jake did tell her his family was here, she didn’t know if they’d be good looking. “Still haven’t met the brother yet.” She mumbled under her breath as she took the outfit into the bathroom to try it on, looking at herself in the mirror and approved what she saw. “I think this is it.” She looked down at her outfit, thinking it was either this or a black dress.

"There should have been some kind of warning." Cordelia joked, tilting her head when she heard Jessie mumble but couldn't understand what she was saying but shrugged it off. She kicked her feet aimlessly as she waited for Jessie to come out and when she did, Cordelia let out a low whistle. "Oh yeah, that's the one," she grinned, "just warm enough to get you through the rodeo but gives you a good reason to pretend to be cold and ask for his jacket."

“I’ll try to remember the next time I stumble upon hot cowboys,” Jessie smirked as she crossed her arms over her chest, “I am not going to pull that stunt, we are just friends.” She narrowed her eyes at her roommate, wondering why she thought this was some kind of date. “I’m bringing my sweater.” She had a big bag already to go, she just needed the finishing touches.

"And tell them you have a hot, single roommate." Cordelia laughed, shaking her head at Jessie. "Yeah, friends, but a gentleman is always willing to lend a jacket." She added, looking down at Jessie's bag with a slight frown, "you're gonna bring that big of a bag?" She asked, wondering if she could snatch the sweater without Jessie realizing it.

“I can do that,” Jessie said, saluting Cordelia like it was an order in the army. Her chest twinged a little at the thought of Jake wanting to ask Cordelia out on a date, but she wasn’t sure why since they were just friends. “He is a gentleman,” She smiled softly as she looked down at her purse. “Yes? Just for essentials.” She didn’t want to admit she had snacks along with two true crime books for the bus rides, it still felt a little embarrassing to ride the bus, but she didn’t want a pity ride either.

Cordelia laughed, hoping that maybe she'd get lucky. She didn't mind hooking up with Blake but...that didn't mean she would stop from looking elsewhere. "Perfect." She smiled, nodding but glanced down at Jessie's purse again. "The essentials including books of course." She teased, not finding anything wrong with that, knowing that was something the two had in common, though their genres were kind of different.

Jessie tossed her sweater into her purse, leaving one of the sleeves to hang out, at least a majority of it was inside. “Yes, the bus ride is about an hour,” she admitted as she not her lower lip, once again wishing for a car, but not wanting to ask her grandparents for one and have strings attached to it.

Cordelia eyed the part of the sweater that was hanging from Jessie's bag, feeling like it was taunting her. "Aw shit, that sucks." She frowned, wishing she could help out but it wasn't like she had her own car, her parents didn't completely trust her with one so far from home, which was annoying since they trusted her older brother with one. "Does that mean it's time for you to go?" She asked, figuring she'd end up retreating to her room again.

“It’s fine, I don’t mind taking the bus, it’s just a little scary at night,” Jessie had set an alarm on her phone for thirty minutes before the last bus so she wouldn’t miss it. “I’m thinking I’ll ask for a car next year though, not having one kind of sucks,” She chuckled, sitting back down at her desk to finish getting ready. “Not yet, but maybe like, twenty minutes?” It wasn’t that far of a walk to the bus station, but she liked to be early.

Cordelia frowned a little, making a mental note to stay up until Jessie got back to the dorm to make sure she was okay. "Not having one does suck, even in a small town like this." She agreed, pulling her legs up so she was sitting cross legged as she watched Jessie get ready, a bit envious of her make up skills. "Okay, I could walk with you." She offered.

“Right, I’d love to just go shopping without having to worry about what bus to take or try and find someone to drive her, though that would mean making friends again. She gave Cordelia a small smile, hoping she wouldn’t disappear like her old friends had. “If I had a car, I would drive us places.” She promised, knowing she wouldn’t mind. It didn’t take long for Jessie to finish her makeup and hair before turning to look at the boots she was about to struggle to get on. “If you want to, it’s not that far of a walk. It’s nice outside.” She shrugged, grabbing one of the boots and slipped it on.

Cordelia nodded, she opted to walk most places or take the bike she did have, but sometimes she was able to weasel in delivery so she wouldn't have to go anywhere. "O appreciate at the sentiment." She smiled back at Jessie, believing that she would at least try to do that. "I don't mind, I should probably go outside for once." She rolled her eyes but laughed a little. "Plus I can use it as an excuse to go to the book store."

Jessie began to wonder if her and Cordelia would be roommates next year, could you request a specific roommate? She slipped on the boots without a problem and walked around. “Not too bad, I could wear these for sure.” She looked down at her black boots and then posed for Cordelia, “Do I look fit to meet cowboys?” She laughed before grabbing her purse and slinging it over her shoulder, sweater sleeve sticking out the back. “You don’t need an excuse, just go.” She smirked.

Cordelia raised an eyebrow, "oh definitely." She said with a grin and as she got up, "I bet they'll be drooling all over you." She teased, knowing at least one would be. "Yeah but if I use an excuse then it makes me sound motivated." She said with a wave of her hand, heading over to her room and grabbing a sweatshirt, pulling it on then grabbed her messenger bag, heading out to the living room area. "Ready when you are."

Jessie rolled her eyes, “I doubt that I’m a newbie, so I’ll stick out like a sore thumb.” She grimaced, but she knew that at least Jake would talk to her, and that was enough for now. She grabbed her keys and tossed them into her purse, watching them fall to the bottom and made note to dig for it long before her stop. “Ready.” She said, opening their main door and stepping into the hallway, holding it open for her to follow.

"Doubt it, you'll be fine." Cordelia replied and walked out into the hall, glancing at the sweater in Jessie's purse, she'd wait until the perfect moment to grab it so Jessie couldn't take it back after realizing she had it. She did check her own messenger bag but everything she needed was still inside incase she decided to venture beyond the book store.

Jessie closed the door and heard the automatic lock before turning towards the lobby. “Tell me the truth, how many art classes are you signed up for?” she teased, though was jealous of her friend’s talent. But she would never not hyper her up about it, loving everything she made. “So, what genre are you looking for today?”

Cordelia looked at Jessie with wide, innocent eyes, "I plead the fifth." She joked as she fixed the strap of her bag as they walked. In all reality, whatever extracurricular slots she had were filled with some form of art class, except for one, which was a creative writing course that she had signed up for on a whim. "Romance as always, maybe something paranormal to fit with the season." She shrugged, having a soft spot for anything with a good love story.

Jessie rolled her eyes but laughed, “It’s fine, you are really good, you should totally pursue that career,” She wasn’t sure how it would end up for Cordelia, but she wished nothing but the best for her. She walked through the front door and headed towards the parking lot. “As always, there are a few good true crime romance ones I enjoyed.” Though there wasn’t enough mystery or gore, depending on what type it was.

"Ah yeah, become a starving artist as my parents like to say." Cordelia laughed a little, she would love to have an art be part of whatever job she ended up with but if her parents had their way she'd end up being a doctor or something. She walked along with Jessie, enjoying the cool Autumn air as it brushed against her face. "I'm always open to recommendations."

“Well, possible, but what if you weren’t?” Jessie asked, hoping to one day become a detective, just like her dad. Part of her worried that his last name would be ruined, and she wouldn’t get hired anywhere, but she wouldn’t know till she tried. “Some of them might be more horror than romance.” She grimaced, shrugged her shoulders, knowing the books she was thinking of was a horror, but there was romance in it.

"Then I could laugh in their faces." Cordelia joked, wondering briefly if her parents would ever have something positive to say to her. She didn't waste any hope on that. "Maybe make some kind of inspirational children's book about reaching for your dreams or something." She laughed and shrugged, "I'm open to reading whatever at this point."

Jessie smirked, wondering if she’d get that chance. “What would you do otherwise?” Wondering if she had a backup plan and debating on figuring out a backup for herself. She giggled at the inspirational children’s books. “I could write ones about the dangers of the world.” She joked, looking over all the cars in the parking lot, wondering who owned what car, wondering what kind of car she’d end up with if she asked for one. “Feel free to check out my books, not a lot, but a few.” Though there were more true crime books than any other genre, but maybe she’d find one that was interesting.

Cordelia frowned a little bit, she hadn't thought much about it, figuring she still had time to decide, or maybe she'd say fuck it and just see where life would take her. "I have no idea, maybe go be a hermit on a mountain." She joked, laughing at Jessie's idea for a book, "I mean that could work, have a main character called Scaredy Cat." She said, thinking it would be a cute idea and kind of funny. "Sure, I'll take a look some time but I won't take one unless you say it's okay first."
