Reed followed her towards the check out stand, nodding, "you just vacation in New York?" He joked while he waited for her to finish checking out but his head snapped over to her when she said she was ready to head back to the dorms. He knew she had said no dinner but technically this wouldn't be dinner. "Not without lunch, I'm starving." He told her.

Shannon handed over her card, glancing at the amount that popped up, noting she had plenty of left over allowance for the month. “My mother owns a Condo there. Sometimes I stay there.” She admitted, watching as her ne clothes were wrapped up in tissue paper and put into a fancy bag before her card was given back. She didn’t want to sit down and eat with him, it would be too much like a date, too many chances to talk. “Can I interest you in doing something else other than lunch. Like going back to the dorms.” She suggested, knowing there was probably one store she could try, but she was worried it would happen eventually.

Reed nodded, not surprised that her family would have a condo. "Sounds like a good get away," he said, glancing at her total then away, feeling a little queasy but it wasn't his business. "Nope, I'm hungry," he replied as he took her bags, adding them to the ones he was already carrying around. "Just something from the food court, doesn't even have to be one of those restaurants they have here, unless you want that."

“It is,” Though Shannon liked it better when she was home alone back in L.A., but she wasn’t going to let him in on that. “Alright, go eat. I’ll shop more.” She could easily check out a few more stores without him, happy to do so while he stuffed his face with whatever food was in the food court she wouldn’t know, she’d never looked.

Reed frowned at her, "you should eat too." He said, not in a demanding way but in a general tone. "I doubt you'd want me to carry you out of here if you faint." He joked a little, thinking ahead to what he wanted. Part of him wanted a burger and the other wanted chicken strips but he'd have to figure it out when he got there.

“Hmmm, go shopping, or sit down and eat with you…” Shannon raised her hands up and down as if she was really weighing the options for the best one. She didn’t think she’d faint, she didn’t feel starving, even if she could feel the edges of her stomach grumble slightly, but she could easily ignore them long enough for dinner. Her eyes were suddenly drawn to the Barnes and Nobles and the instant need for him to just go eat while she disappeared amongst the shelf was a must, but she had a feeling he’d be persistent. “I’ll make a bargain with you,” she crossed her arms over her chest as she turned towards him. “Go eat, I’ll shop. In what, thirty minutes? We can meet at Victoria Secrets.” She didn’t see why he’d care about the store, it wasn’t like she’d come out showing off new underwear for him.

Reed frowned, feeling like she was settling much too easily and that she had some kind of plan to ditch him if they were to split up. "Hmm, I don't think I can believe you," he told her. He would cross his arms if he could but with his arms full of her bags he was left keeping them down. "I can wait until you're done shopping."

Shannon sighed dramatically and rubbed her forehead from frustration. “I want my stuff, you have my stuff. I’m not going to ditch you,” even if it sounded like something she’d rather do, she wasn’t about to run off without the bags of clothes she had just bought. She didn’t want him to go to the bookstore with her, no one knew she read as much as she did, or bought as many books as she did.

Reed frowned at her, she had a point, but what would stop her from ditching and then demanding for the clothes when they saw each other again at school? He glanced at her then at the bags and back, the expression in his face persisting. "Fine...but if you leave I'm donating all of this."

Shannon rolled her eyes, “I will not be ditching.” She muttered, eyeing her bags of clothes one last time in case he did it anyways before turning her back to him and headed into the crowd of people, ducking into a small boutique for five minutes before leaving and making a B-Line for Barnes and Nobles, wasting no time in finding a book as soon as she walked in. It wasn’t long before she had a stack of books, lost in the first few chapters of a book, sitting in the fantasy aisle. She hadn’t realized she lost track of time however, the thirty minutes had come and gone.

Reed didn't respond, eyes narrowing slightly as he looked after her. He waited a few seconds before turning and heading to the food court, finding something to eat and sitting down, figuring he looked a little ridiculous with all the bags but he ignored whatever looks he got. When he was finished eating he headed to Victoria Secret, peeking into the store but when he didn't see Shannon and double checked the time he cursed to himself, assuming she had left but instead of storming off like he wanted he went to the stores in the area where he had left her and looked around but each one yielded nothing, leaving him with only one to check. He hesitated in front of Barnes and Noble before going inside, doubting he'd find her but as he roamed the aisles he pleasantly surprised to find her bent over a book. He tilted his head, not saying anything. He looked around, spotting a chair and meandered over, sitting down to wait.

Shannon wasn’t aware of Reed’s arrival, but she did feel like she was being stared at from somewhere. She didn’t want to draw attention to herself, and forced the feeling away as she dove into her phone, scrolling through books she needed to complete a series, books, that she wanted to replace for different reasons, or new books she hadn’t heard about. She inspected each book carefully, the cover and title drew her in, the summary kept her there. She made sure there were no misprints, rips, and bent pages before adding another to her ever-growing pile. She’d spend more on books if her mother didn’t demand a new outfit each date.

Reed tilted his head as he watched how meticulous she was with her books, he had thought she had been picky with clothes but this was a whole new level. He didn't say anything as she continued her search, leaning back in his seat and crossing one leg over the other instead until a book on his right caught his eye and he picked it up, thumbing through the pages.

Shannon added one more book to her stack, making it an even fifteen before she stood up and picked up the stack, ready to head to check out. “Can’t be more than twenty minutes.” She told herself as she walked down the aisle towards Reed, concentrating on not dropping the stack or tripping over her on feet.

Reed raised an eyebrow, surprised she could carry such a big stack. "Oh," he called over to her, closing his book, "it's been almost an hour I think." He got up from his spot and put the book back where he had gotten it.

Hearing Reed’s voice caused Shannon to jump slightly, losing her grip on the books slightly, almost causing her to drop all of them, but only two fell. “Jesus fucking Christ.” she muttered, closing her eyes, and slowly breathing in and out. She narrowed her eyes at him, wondering how he found her when what he said finally reached her brain. “It’s been an hour…” She felt her cheeks flush as she looked at her stack of books, knowing she had the tendency to lose track of time. “Shit.” She muttered as she tried to figure out how to pick up the two books that fell and keep Reed from saying anything about her being a bookworm.

Reed raised an eyebrow when she jumped, unable to stop himself from smirking. "Yup, it's been a hour." He said as he walked over, picking up the books she had dropped and putting them back on top of her stack. "At this rate I'm gonna need a wheel barrow to carry around all of these bags." He joked, thinking the amount of books she had was insane and definitely didn't peg her for a reader but he wasn't going to judge.

Shannon bit her lower lip, hating her addiction at times, because this wasn’t a time to let it control her. She watched as he picked up the two books that fell and placed them back on her stack. She rolled her eyes, “Then you need to work out.” Granted she always found ways to carry her packages without having to actually carry them all at once, but she wasn’t going to tell him that. She stepped up to the counter, adding a tote bag to make it easier to carry them. “Sorry… I lost track of time.” She hated admitting it, hated apologizing, especially to him.

"I always work out, thank you." Reed joked, "sometimes I know how to work smarter instead of harder." He said, glancing at the books with mild curiosity but his head snapped up to her when she apologized. He just shrugged and started walking towards the check out area. "It's fine, at least you didn't ditch."

Shannon hadn’t seen him at the school’s gym, but she did tend to go later at night, when just a few of the stragglers were there. Less chance of being bothered. “I told you, you have my stuff.” She pointed down to all her bags as she paid for the books and the bag, watching the worker try and organize them into it. She would immediately fix that as soon as they left the store even if she planned to head back to the dorms after this.

"And I'm pretty sure you'd hunt it down later." Reed replied, looking back at her as he waited for her to check out, sliding most of the clothing bags onto one arm and taking the book bags on his other arm.

Reed wasn’t wrong, but Shannon wasn’t going to admit that out loud to him, even if that meant hunting him down in the process. She grabbed the handle to the bag of books and wouldn’t let it go, even as he slid it onto his arm. “This is one bag I’d like to hold onto please,” She wanted to rearrange the books, “You can carry it after if that makes you feel better.” She added, taking the handle, and dragging him off to the side so other could check out, “I just need to… Rearrange them. Then we can leave.” Hopefully back to the dorms where she could put them on her bookshelf, admire them, line them up in order of how she was going to read them.

Reed raised an eyebrow when she took the bag from him, surprised when she said please but let her do it, nodding slowly when she said he could carry the bag after she was done. He followed after her with a slight frown, "okay..."

Once he gave up the bag, Shannon headed out of the store and found an empty bench, sitting down with the bag on her lap and started organizing the books how she wanted, and even pulled out two books from her purse and replaced them with two of the new ones. “There, I can happily carry it from now on, but if you must.” She sighed, holding out the bag to him, “Ready to leave when you are.” She crossed her arms, wanting to settle down in her bed with her pillows and blankets, and pick up where she left off.

Reed followed Shannon out of the store, raising an eyebrow as she sorted through her books but stayed where he was, not wanting to get in the way of whatever she was doing. "The deal was that I was going to carry the bags." Reed shrugged and took the bag of books from her. His head tilted when she said she was ready to leave, wondering if he should push his luck. "Then I guess we should go if you aren't hungry."

Shannon thought he was going to remind her she promised to meet him at Victoria Secret, she still wasn’t sure what he was expecting from that but held her tongue when he mentioned if she was hungry. “Why are you so concerned about that?” She was a little hungry, but the less time she spent with him the better, eventually he’d find out she was a bitch. Find out her mom was a bitch. Find out she was no good as a wife or a mother.

Reed looked over at her with a slight frown, "uh, because usually people get hungry at this time of day?" He responded, "I'm surprised you didn't get a coffee or something." He shrugged, thinking that since she liked books so much she'd like coffee, since there was a coffee shop inside of the book store he figured people who read also liked hot drinks plus Shannon looked like she could step out of a Starbucks ad.

“Well, seeing as I thought I only had thirty minutes, I picked books over coffee.” She crossed her arms and turned away, hiding the flush on her cheeks, remembering someone she thought was a friend and laughed at her. She dumped her as a friend, but it still stung. “Normally I would get a coffee,” And three of those vanilla bean scones, but she was distracted by the sudden smell of “Pretzels.” She practically drooled as she turned from Reed and headed for the stand, ready to eat her weight in pretzel bites, even if that meant a longer run later.

Reed was about to tell her she could go get coffee when she said something about pretzels and was walking away, making him frown before following after her, a bit surprised that she'd want pretzels but wasn't going to stop her. He stood in line next her, looking at the menu but wasn't too interested in getting anything for himself.

Shannon pulled out her wallet as she waited in line, already knowing what she wanted, what she always got when she came to the mall. “Medium lemonade and pretzel bites please.” She said, holding out cash for the guy as he rang her up. Another employee placed her cup of pretzel bites and drink on the counter next to the register. “I could eat this forever.” She sighed, picking up both items and immediately popping one into her mouth, “Happy?” She raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on her lips as she sipped her drink.
