Maya's lips twisted together as she stretched out a roll of gold streamers, not sure what she was supposed to do with it or how to twist it to make it look so pretty like from the movies. She hadn't planned on helping set up for the dance but when another girl asked her to help she couldn't stop herself from saying no, thinking that this would be something fun, not something so confusing. The other people who were in the gym setting up had grouped into pairs, taking on their own projects while she was given the streamers and told to hang them up but how could she do that without any instructions? She huffed a breath through the hair that fell over one of her eyes, wondering if she could take off through a side door instead of deal with this.

Normally the gym was empty unless there was a class or a game happening, but none of that should have been happening, at least according to the schedule. Brody just wanted to shoot some hoops for fun, but when he stepped through the doors, he was surprised to find a bunch of people inside, decorating. He raised an eyebrow before walking over to the closet person, a girl holding onto what looked like gold streamers. “Soooo… What are we decorating for?” He asked, guessing he wouldn’t be shooting hoops today, or for the next few days till whatever this was ended.

Maya frowned at the streamer, wondering if she threw it it would be like throwing in the towel when someone started talking to her. She perked up, looking at a boy that she thought was rather cute asking her about the decorations. "Oh," she looked around then gave him a big smile, "it's for the Winter Dance." She said, "are you gonna help? I can't hang these by myself." She held up the roll of streamers towards him, hoping that he knew how to deal with these things.

Brody looked around as if there was someone else who could help her, or maybe an adult to know what to do with streamers. He turned back to and looked down at the roll, “What am I supposed to do with it?” he asked, knowing that was kind of a stupid question, but he was usually busy baking things for the party, not decorating.

Maya's lips turned into a slight frown when he looked around as if she was asking someone else. She certainly didn't see anyone else that she could have asked. "Uh, we're supposed to hang it up and make the walls look pretty or whatever." She said, trying to remember what the girl who had given her the streamers had told her. "Like twist it or something."

Brody blinked a few times as he tried to make the streamers look pretty. He looked around the gym and decided to see it as a plain boring cake that he had to decorate, and the streamers was just icing he had to pipe on. “Okay.” He said, unsure what the plan was since most cakes, and parties, were planned out, you always had some kind of idea of where these things would go. “I guess I’ll try this?” he said as he tossed the streamer, she’d handed to him up towards a rod that ran across the wall. He wasn’t sure what it was used for, but the streamer made it on the other side and came tumbling down. “Streamers shouldn’t cause problems,” it was paper, what could go wrong, the good news was, he could now easily see the vision, like the side of a cake.

Maya looked around as if the gym was going to answer her question of what to do until Brody spoke, making her look at him, watching as he threw the streamer, her eyes going wide. "We can definitely make that work." She said cheerfully but then paused, "hopefully we have enough but I think that'll look good."

“Well, if this wasn’t what they wanted, they should have told you the plan.” Brody figured he could make it work, betting they had more stashed somewhere, they may have to ask for it. He started carefully twisting it before tossing it over the rod again, draping it perfectly to line up with the first one, feeling like he was icing a giant cake. “Do you want to ask if they have more? This will go about halfway I think.” Hopefully they had at least seven more streamer, or they’d have to figure out a different plan.

Maya nodded slowly, that did make sense. She watched Brody as he hung the streamers, eyes widening a little bit at how easy he was making it look. "Yeah! I can ask!" She smiled brightly then looked around the gym, tapping her finger against her lips until she spotted the girl from before and ran over. After a couple minutes she hurried back over to Brody, holding a bunch of rolls of streamers in her arms. "Is this enough?" She asked, peeking over from the top of streamers.

Brody watched her run off towards some other chick that seemed to be in charge, he smirked when he realized he couldn’t wait to rub it in Blakes face that he got to spend time with a pretty girl himself, even if Blake might tease him about it. He finished the roll out, being able to tape it to the rod where he could continue another one. When she returned, he looked at the streamers in her hands, “We need at least seven more, but looks like you also have other colors.” Finding silver and black as well as gold too.

Maya looked down at the streamers in her arms, not having noticed the different colors but they seemed to match whatever the theme was for the dance. She glanced around, spotting a banner that said 'A Gilded Winter' and frowned a little bit until it clicked in her head that that was the reason there was gold, the words known to her because it had come up in her latest cram session for class. Maya turned her attention back to Brody, "are you gonna go to the dance?"

Brody grabbed a gold streamer in her hands and started working on finishing this wall, figuring the other walls could do another color if there wasn’t enough gold, but he had a feeling he could layer it all. “Uhh, didn’t know there was a dance honestly.” He hadn’t made plans to go, but he was sure he’d probably end up there.

Maya pursed her lips, finding herself wanting to help hang the streamers. She set what she had on a near by chair and stepped up to Brody. "My friends said there was one but they got out of decorating." She said, feeling like Kathy and Victoria had been by her side one minute then gone the next when the girl who was in charge of decorating marched up to them and almost demanded their help. Maya had been unable to say no when she realized she was alone. She looked at the streamer in his hand then at Brody, "can I try?"

“Do we get something out of helping?” Brody’s guess was there wasn’t going to be anything other than a ‘good job guys.’ From whoever was trying to decorate this place with a bunch of students. He turned to face her, a concerned look on his face at the thought of his precious work not being perfect, before he held the streamer out to her. “I mean, you are the one who actually volunteered.” He teased, wondering if this was his way to bow out of finishing, find Blake to hang out.

"Uh, early entry?" Maya guessed as it occurred to her that she could have said no and walked away but the idea of doing that hurt her heart a little. She looked back at him with innocent eyes then laughed a little, "I was volunten-told," she joked, "I just wanna try throwing it one time to see if I can do it." She said, wondering if it was as easy as he made it look.

Brody grimaced at the only thing you got for helping was early admittance into the dance, he didn’t see the point since he didn’t plan on going at all. He raised an eyebrow at her joke, not quite sure how that worked if she didn’t volunteer, so he shrugged. “You probably could, it’s not too high.” He could easily reach up to put tape in place to keep it there, so he assumed she could reach it.

Any sense of her joke falling short went over Maya's head and she continued to smile. "I just want to try." She said though as she looked up at the bar she was supposed to throw the streamer onto it seemed to be higher up than she initially thought but she was still willing to try it at least once.

Brody snapped his fingers, “Drats, was trying to leave without feeling guilty,” He sighed dramatically, but smirked. It was better than doing nothing, though he really wanted to shoot hoops, figuring he could try the outside courts. He stuck his hands in his pockets and waited, making sure she didn’t need help with it, but he thought she could do it.

Maya looked over at him and raised an eyebrow but smiled, "oh no, you're stuck here now." She giggled and took one of the streamers, pulling her arm back and sending it flying towards the rod that the other streamers hung off of but instead of clearing it the roll hit the rod and bounced back, landing between them and rolling across the floor.

Brody sighed, “Whose gonna stop me?” He teased, turning towards the double doors he had walked in through, and found two teachers, and he was sure the student talking to them was the one in charge. He raised his eyebrows, a little shocked that she hadn’t made it. “Try again, you were pretty close.” He encouraged.

"If you try to get past Gabby before this is all done she'll probably break you knee caps or something." She joked but frowned in response to what happened with the streamer, frustrated that she hadn't made it. Despite her...lack of IQ she was a perfectionist and had a bit of a temper when she wasn't instantly good at something but something in his praise made her perk up a little. "Okay." She picked up the streamer roll and tried to throw it again, watching as it...sailed completely under the bar, hitting the wall and rolling back to them.

Brody grimaced at the image of broken kneecaps, even though he was sure she wouldn’t actually do that, but some kids were scary at this school, and he didn’t want to risk it. He watched her throw again, wondering if she was never going to get it, and was glad he had patience to wait. “So… It’s supposed to be over the bar.” He teased, hoping she wouldn’t think it was bad that she didn’t make it.

Maya felt her face turn red from his comment, turning to look at him as she fought back a smile-and failed. She laughed and picked up the streamer. "I know, I know, I'm just not...athletically inclined." She said, that was her brothers role after all, even her slacker sister was more athletic than she was but it wasn't like she had the time outside of her constant studying, violin playing, and socializing to start playing soft ball or something. "Since you're so good then why don't you help me do it?"

“You just throw it,” Brody said, blinking slightly, moving his arm in the motion as if tossing a baseball to a teammate, “Oh, I guess it’s more like… Tossing it.” He chuckled, feeling his neck turn bright red knowing he wasn’t explaining it well, Blake was already he better teacher. Unfortunately, Brody was oblivious to what she was probably insinuating.

"That's what I've been trying to do." Maya pouted a little, not mad or frustrated with him but with herself. "Can you show me?" She asked, turning her attention back to him and holding out the roll of streamers, maybe if she watched him closer she could get it and if not...maybe she could fake a wrist injury.

Brody nodded “Sure, no problem. To me, it’s like icing a cake… Though that’s more for the design than anything.” He chuckled, taking the streamer from her before looking up at the rod. “I can’t really describe it, I just some how know how much power and the angle needed to get it over the rod, I’m not a great teacher.” He chuckled, easily tossing the streamer up and over, and watched it roll for a few seconds before stopping.

Maya's brows furrowed together, not understanding how icing a cake could close at all to throwing streamers over a pole. "Uh...okay." She said as she watched him, frowning a little bit. "You make it look so easy...does this mean you're really good at icing cakes?" She asked, wondering if there would be cake at the dance. She'd heard rumors about a dessert table but she had no idea if she'd be able to sneak over and get herself some.

“Yup, I make delicious cakes, cookies, brownies. Even actual bread.” Brody wanted that career, loved the idea of being a pastry chef like his grandpa, like his mom was. He felt his chest tighten up a little, realizing he hadn’t seen mom this week. He forced a smile to his face, “What’s your favorite type of cake? Vanilla? Chocolate?” Of course there were more flavors, but those two flavors were the best, the basis of all flavors, and ultimately put you into two groups of people, those who like Vanilla, and those who like Chocolate. He grabbed a piece of tape and tapped the part of the streamer on the rod before grabbing the streamer on the ground, “Want to try again?” He held it out to her.

Maya's eyes widened when he described what he could make, wondering how he had learned all that by this age. "Wow...uhm," she smiled a bit sheepishly, "I like strawberry cake but if I had to pick chocolate or vanilla....I'd choose vanilla." She did like chocolate, but sometimes it felt like too much but strawberry was her ultimate favorite, the color and the sweet taste. She looked at the streamer then at him, a little hesitant but nodded, "sure." She carefully took it from him but didn't throw it right away and looked up at the rod again.

Blake smirked, “Alright, strawberries another classic flavor,” He knew it was what people would think of next to add to the batter. “Ah, so you’re a vanilla person.” He teased, unrolling the streamer to give him enough of it to continue the design. “Can’t hurt to try.” He shrugged, hoping they could fix it if the streamer rips.
