Cosette nodded her head, “She is impressive, mon champion.” She called her horse champion, specifically her champion, for all their wins in the last few years. She felt she still had some years left to compete, but she couldn’t. She couldn’t compete, not when Henri could find her easily. Here, she was a normal French teacher, retired from her competing years to teach. Most of her colleagues had done the same when they couldn’t keep up, it was easy to slip as another failed rider. “With how you ride, do you compete in anything?” She asked, having watched him a little while they raced, wondering if he wasn’t the type, but he sure looked like he did.

Silas nodded, looking at her horse again before turning his attention back to the field before them. "Oh," he looked at her when she asked her question, "I used to be in the rodeo, professional bull rider specifically," for a brief moment he thought of his brother, his heart hit with an aching pang. "I've grown up around horses, my friends I use to race them for fun and would do some trick riding, not that we were any good at it." He chuckled a little, thinking of the many times he had almost broken something while trying to do something stupid. "But I haven't competed in quite a long time."

Cosette felt her face curl into a grimace. She’d seen videos of bull riding, mostly the ones that went bad. “Bulls are scary, I don’t think I could do it.” She shook her head, feeling goosebumps grow along her arms, and felt a cold breeze suddenly. “Did you ever get, hurt?” She asked, wondering if he stopped because of an injury or not, but the look on his face showed that he was already thinking about something specific about bull riding.

Silas saw her grimace but it didn't effect him, he was used to people reacting that way when he talked about the sport, it wasn't one that just anyone could do and did offer a lot of danger but it made him feel alive and was one of the few things he was good at. "They can be scary, but also strong and stubborn, and even a bit gentle when not in the arena." He smiled at her next question, "I got hurt a lot, a few broken bones here and there and a few concussions but I couldn't keep myself away." He explained, it was also a way for him to have kept his brothers memory alive, to feel like he was with him.

“Stubborn is right,” Cosette chuckled, feeling like that was part of the charm of riding a bull, trying to prove who was more stubborn. “How many broken bones?” she asked, having dealt with a few broken arms, wrists, and fingers herself. She’d been lucky and avoided breaking a leg, or something worse, but Estella had been perfect. “I understand, not being able to stay away. la compétition me manque.” She muttered the last part, wishing she could compete again.
la compétition me manque = I miss competing

Silas paused, trying to think of the times that he had broken something until giving her sheepish smile, "a lot, I've broken my right arm at least twice and my left once and my right leg once." He said, head cocking to the side at what she had muttered, having no idea what she was saying. "I would agree but, I really don't know what you just said." His voice was sheepish as he said that, not wanting to make her feel bad that he didn't understand.

Cosette stared at him with wide eyes as he listed off what he’d broken while riding a bull. “Seems painful,” She grimaced again, remembering how her broken arm felt after she’d fallen when the horse she’d been riding refused a jump. She lightly laughed when he said he didn’t understand what she said. “Sorry, I often forget. I just called her my champion.” She admitted.

"Only after the adrenaline wears off." Samuel chuckled, having been in competition majority of time he had been focused on trying to win that it took him a moment before the pain really shot through him like a hot spike. "Oh no, you're good," he chuckled, "I just wanted to make sure you were asking a question or something and I was left staring at you." He joked.

Cosette nodded her head, knowing adrenaline can make most injuries seem like nothing at first, “Hopefully I wont mess up in class, teaching the students.” She couldn’t say her students yet, it felt strange at the moment. “I hope they like me.” She said more to herself, but she wouldn’t know until the first day of class how well it all will go.

Silas felt for her, every year he caught nerves before his first few classes until he finally barreled through them and felt at ease once again. "I'm sure you'll be fine," he smiled kindly, "the kids aren't that bad and you'll figure out which teaching style is best for you." He said with hopefulness, "the best part about our teaching positions is that we get to teach however we want."

“That is good to hear, since I don’t even have a teaching style,” Cosette was lucky she had gone to Uni and gotten a degree that was good enough to teach, because she wasn’t sure what else she could do besides compete. The barn came into view, and she couldn’t help but sigh sadly. “I guess I’ll have to unpack now.” She wasn’t looking forward to unpacking for her classroom, even though she was excited about decorating.

"You'll find one, it shouldn't take long." Silas said, knowing it had taken him a bit of a while to figure out his style and what actually worked. "Do you need help unpacking?" He asked without hesitation, hearing her sigh. He would feel terrible if she needed help and he hadn't known well enough to lend it.

Cosette bit her lower lip at his offer, she wanted to say yes, but she felt like she put him out enough as it was. “I don’t want you to feel obligated to help me, I’ve already cut into your time with this ride.” Though she was very grateful they got to do it and she planned on riding again tomorrow.

Silas raised an eyebrow at her worry, "if my time was an issue I wouldn't be offering to help." He told her, but he wouldn't push the issue if she didn't really want his help, as long as he got the stables cleaned out some time that day he didn't mind helping her out, he would be good at moving boxes and furniture but as for decorating he wouldn't be all that useful.

Cosette wasn’t sur why, but she felt her cheeks flush at his words. He was too nice, but she couldn’t help smiling at that, she needed nice after everything. “Merci.” She bowed her head slightly as they came to a stop at the barn, and she slipped to the ground from her saddle. “Don’t worry, I don’t have that many boxes.” Though she had gone crazy with ordering, and only realized how much she spent when she realized she didn’t have anything for the classroom.

Silas perked up a little, flashing her a grin, "ah! I know what that word means!" He joked and hopped down, patting Dodger on the head before leading him inside. "Lot's of boxes or little boxes I shouldn't have a problem helping you out, most of my life has been spent stacking hay bales." He continued to joke as he got Dodger ready to go back into his stall.

Cosette laughed when he said he new the word thank you in French. “Good, you are on your way to learning French.” At least, she had learned that word and a few others like please and such, the polite words, first. She raised an eyebrow at him saying he stacked haybales, knowing that was probably a lot of work, her eyes trailing his back as he turned away from her, taking care of Dodger like she should be for Estella. “I’m worried I don’t have enough for my classroom, and yet I also feel like I don’t have enough.” She admitted, turning her attention back to Estella, getting her ready to relax and recuperate after the run.

"Ah see, I'll be a master in no time." Silas joked, liking the way her laugh sounded and briefly hoped he'd be able to hear it more. He tried his best to keep his attention on taking care of Dodger but continued to listen to her. "Well, best way to figure that out is to get everything set up." He told her, taking back Dodgers tack to its space then returning and brushing him out. "You could always just be that low key French teacher who just plays movies all the time." He joked.

“I’d say I could teach you, but I don’t know if I can teach anyone,” Cosette teased, though the fear was always sitting at the back of her mind. She shook the thought away, knowing at the moment, she didn’t have any other choice. She finished brushing out Estella and carried her saddle back to the tack room. She grimaced at the thought of just showing movies, “Do anyone learn that way?” Maybe it was possible, but she did want to actually teach the language too.

"Hey, I could be your practice student." Silas joked, trying to keep his eyes on Dodger but he couldn't help it was they flickered over, lingering on Cosette as she walked away with the saddle, until he realized what he was doing and brought his focus back to his horse. "I don't think so, I was just joking, showing moves all the time is the lazy way out." He chuckled.

“If you want to be subjugated to the worst teacher ever,” Cosette joked, chuckling a little, though she felt like that much was true. The idea of having a practice student was something that could work though, except she felt that Silas would be too nice of a student. “I might show one or two of my favorites, not a bad idea when I need a break.” She chuckled softly as she finished brushing Estella.

Silas chuckled, "I doubt you're going to be worst." He said as he finished with Dodger and focused on cleaning up the mess he had made. "Movies here and there aren't awful, it's when they're all the time there's an issue." He said, thinking that would be taking the easy way out. "Wish I could find a way to pawn a movie onto my class sometimes though." He joked.

Cosette finished brushing Estella and handed her a sugar cube from her pocket. “You man to tell me there’s no horse movies you’d want to show?” She chuckled, though most weren’t educational, there were a few she figured he could show just for fun. “What about, um, that movie with the er… Must-ang?” she was thinking of the animated movie about a horse named Spirit, she thought it was super cute and loved it.

Silas laughed, shaking his head, he was thinking more about how he'd actually show a movie in the barn rather than what he would show. He frowned a little but when she mentioned a movie with a mustang, taking him a moment as he thought about what movie she could possibly be talking about. "Seabiscuit? Or do you mean Spirit?"

“Ah, yes. Spirit, that one. It’s a cute movie,” Cosette thought about the one horse in the movie, Rain, and how she’d love the spotted horses the most, which explained her instant love for Estella. She closed the stall door, leaving Estella to munch on some hay and relax, making her wish she could do the same. “If you need to finish working in the barn, you don’t have to help me with the boxes.” Part of her wanted him to help, her logical side warned her it.

Silas smiled, the image of having his riding class sit around watching Spirit, Samuel would be sure to want to kill me for making him sit through something like that. "Maybe I'll figure out a way to set something like that up for class." He joked, looking over at her, "I don't mind helping you out, it shouldn't take that long." He offered, knowing he could work the barn in the evening.

“Well, if your class isn’t during my class, you could borrow the classroom,” Cosette shrugged, wondering if he had his own classroom, or just the barn. She figured he wouldn’t really need a classroom to teach riding, though wasn’t sure what they did when it rained. She headed out towards the little car she bought when she first arrived in the States and unlocked it, popping the trunk which was full of boxes. “Just… A few.” She grimaced, realizing there was more than she thought.

"Well thanks for the offer, we'll see what happens when the time comes." Silas said, for a moment an idea popping into his head but he wasn't sure if Leda would go for it, she was pretty good natured so he didn't think it would take too much to convince her. He followed her out to her car, pausing for a moment when all he could picture was driving over it with his truck like some kind of monster jam. He kept the image to himself as he followed her back to the trunk, raising an eyebrow, "wow, you fit a lot in here."

“I am surprisingly good at puzzles.” Cossette admitted, though realized that she’d open the trunk for no reason. She closed the trunk and sighed, “Sorry, riding Estella made me forgetful, I have to take this to my classroom, up at the school.” She grimaced, pointing back towards the main school buildings, and wondered if he was willing to go all the way there and back to the barn just to help her.

Silas chuckled when she said she was good at puzzles, that seemed pretty obvious to him but he wondered if she was showing him this so he could have a chance to change his mind, but even with all the boxes he wasn't planning on it. "It's all good," he smiled, "I'll still help you out."
