Cosette raised an eyebrow, one side of her lips curled up in a smirk. “If you were full of yourself?” She laughed, taking another bite of her food as he went on to talk about his awards back at the school. “Guess you’ll have to show me these awards in order for me to believe you.” She teased, figuring eventually she would see them when she visited the barn again, which would be soon so she could ride Estella again.

Silas chuckled and took another bite of his food, he thought of himself as a humble guy and probably wouldn't have brought up the awards if it wasn't for the rodeo conversation. "Well stop by my office some time and you'll see them." He chuckled softly, "now what about you? What about your riding achievements?"

“I’m sure I’ll be stopping by the barn tomorrow,” Cosette said, though she thought about stopping by on her way home to say goodnight to Estella. It still felt weird not to be able to just walk to the barn and see her horse, but she couldn’t put Estella up in her apartment for several reasons. She felt her cheeks flush a little when he asked about her, “Well, I competed a lot in Dressage, Show Jumping, and Cross Country.” She didn’t want to give too many details of how well she did, not needing her life scrutinized right now when she was keeping it on the down low.

"What a coincidence, I'll be there too." Silas joked, he would start his morning with the cattle and end the day at the barn at the school, just like every day this week. He nodded his head as she explained what he did, unable to help himself as he shot back her own question to her, "were you good?"

Cosette smirked when he said he’d be there too, “So you can help me carry in more boxes then.” She teased, planning to not have anything else brought to the school just yet, it would depend on when she unpacked. Cosette shrugged, trying to play it cool, “I was decent. Decent enough I guess to teach.” She looked down at her food, unable to look him in the face as she lied.

"Oh did I say tomorrow? I meant Monday." Silas joked, flashing her a smile, he doubted she had anymore boxes but if she did show up with some he would help her if she really needed it. He tilted his head as she spoke about her career as a rider, nodding slowly, "I guess so, I look forward to seeing what you can do."

Cosette laughed, “I knew it,” She shook her head, though if he really didn’t want to help her carry more boxes, she would completely understand. “Well, I do plan on getting to work immediately and designing how I’d want the jumps to be.” She already knew what jumps she wanted, she just needed the order of it.

Silas chuckled, "really though, I'll help you out again if you really need it, unless it's like, to hide a body." He joked as he listened to her, nodding. "If you need help moving the jumps I can lend a hand and if not, I have a couple nephews who can be of service." He said, thinking of Jake and Reed, who would be helping out along with Silas in the barn.

“If you’re busy with work I won’t bother you.” Cosette didn’t want to impose on him, more than she felt she already had. She had a feeling though that he was the kind of guy that would always go out of his way for someone, even a new face. “So, you have a son and some nephews?” She wasn’t shocked, since he had come from such a large family already, it was no surprise that it was still growing.

"Don't worry, if you need help I don't mind lending a hand." Silas replied, waving a hand. The only way he could see himself denying to help her would be if he was in the middle of teaching a class. "Yeah, my nephews just transferred to Graymore, my sister thought it would do some good if they experienced going to a school outside of Texas."

“So, got your hands full then,” Cosette teased, though thinking it might be tough to keep an eye on three grown boys. She couldn’t help but wonder what it felt like to have a big family, but the thought of a family always brought her back to Henri, and how they had planned for such things.

"Just a bit." Silas chuckled, "Jake has his head on right, Samuel is...well, Samuel, and Reed is the wild card." He chuckled, thinking of each of the boys as he finished off his meal and took the last sip of his soda. "Are you about ready to go?" He asked, not wanting to get the waitress if Cosette wasn't done.

“Which one is yours,” Cosette smiled softly, wondering who out of three belonged to him. She looked at her plate and nodded. “I can’t eat another bite I’m so full.” But this gave her a chance to have dinner without worrying about making it, buying ingredients, or ordering in when she was tired from unpacking.

"Samuel," Silas smiled, out of the three Samuel was probably the quietest one but also didn't hesitate to cause mischief. He chuckled at her response, "glad you liked it." He caught the waitresses eye and asked for the bill and when he got it passed over his card for the payment.

“Hey! I was supposed to buy.” Cosette pointed out as she reached for her purse, hoping to stop the waitress from taking his card and using hers instead, but by the time she pulled out her wallet, the waitress had already walked away. She narrowed her eyes at him, “Just for that, I’m going to make you carry every box I bring.” She threatened teasingly, though not planning to if she could handle it herself.

Silas looked at Cosette innocently, a sweet smile on his face, "oh? That was the agreement wasn't it? Seems like it slipped my mind, oh well." He shrugged but couldn't stop smiling, he'd never had the intent for her to pay, it wasn't how he was raised and he could already feel his mom smacking the back of his head if she ever found out that he let a woman pay for him. "More boxes? I'm so scared." He teased her back.

Cosette narrowed her eyes as much as possible, “Trust me, it’ll be the heaviest box ever.” And she wouldn’t help him, let him struggle to carry it in without any help. She smiled though, having another plan forming in her mind and betting he wouldn’t be expecting it. “This was great, thank you again.” She said, packing up the rest of her food into a container.

Silas leaned across the table slightly, a smirk on his face, "challenge accepted." He told her then sat up, taking his used napkins and discarded straw wrapper and stacking him on is empty plate to make it easier for the waitress who, after a few moments, brought back his card and receipt. He put his card back in his wallet and folded up the receipt before turning his attention back to Cosette, "ready?"

When Silas leaned over the table towards her, Cosette couldn’t help the flush rising to her cheeks. She forced herself to stare him down though, “can’t wait to watch you struggle,” she teased, as the waitress returned with the receipt. “Ugh, I might not get any work done now, so full.” She joked, grabbing her container and standing up.

"Uh huh, I'm sure." He chuckled, not noticing the way her cheeks reddened a little. He wondered if she'd really find him a big box to carry or if she was just trying to tease him. He got up from the table with her and started to head towards his truck, tucking his hands into his pockets, "me too, maybe I'll go hide in the loft and take a nap."

Cosette giggled at the thought of him disappearing into the loft and taking a nap. “I remember doing that when I was growing up, not wanting to do any chores,” She’d hide in the loft when she heard her mother calling out to her, hoping she’d think she’d run out to a friend or into town before she could take up her entire day with chores needed that day. “Maybe I’ll take a nap in my cool quiet new room.” She didn’t have a pillow or a blanket, but she figured she could find something that would work.

"Sometimes that's the best place to nap," Silas chuckled, thinking of the cool Spring nights where he'd climb into the loft after a long day of work just to relax, the hay still a little warm while he looked out one of the windows at the night sky until falling asleep...and eventually waking up to a million mosquito bites. "Your desk certainly looked big enough for a sleeping space." He joked, holding the door open for her to walk outside.

“I liked it when it rained, the sound was always so soothing,” Cosette suddenly felt very homesick, wishing she could go back to visit, at least a little. She knew she’d have to wait at least a year at the least, to avoid visits from Henri. She walked outside as she thought about her desk. “Think I could have a bed built into the underside?” She teased, heading towards his truck.

Silas nodded, liking the sound of rain as well but unluckily for him, one of the spots he liked to lay in was directly under a leaky patch of roof. A patch that he always forgot about fixing until he was laying underneath it during a rainstorm and was left soaked or having to evacuate in the middle of the night. He chuckled at the idea of a bed being built into a desk but it sounded like something he'd want, "no idea, but I bet you could get one of those giant dog beds to hide under there and lay in."

Cosette thought about getting a big dog bed and shook her head, “I never feel like they are soft enough.” Though she hadn’t looked at that many dog beds, since she wasn’t in need of one. “I’ll just hide a folded bed in the closet.” She joked, laughing at the thought of opening the already cramped closet and finding a folded bed to sleep on.

"Then you haven't found the right one." He joked as they rounded the corner and his truck came into view. "Why not just go all out and get one of those couches with a bed in it?" He teased, it would be the ultimate hiding in plain sight sort of thing.

“I could do that, have a little French reading area to cover it up.” Cosette could easily, though she’d have to save up enough money for that first. She walked up to the passenger side and hesitated, worried she might fall again, only this time, she was worried she’d hit the concrete.

"Exactly, no one would know." He chuckled, the only risk would be students breaking it or trying to sneak in to use it but if Cosette kept her room locked he didn't see there being too much of a risk. He paused, looking between her and the truck as he unlocked it, "I'll help you, don't worry." He said as he opened the door, holding out his hand to her.

Cosette turned towards Silas as he promised he’d help her into the truck, “That would be great,” She owed him another lunch just for helping her get up into his truck. She placed her to go box on the floor, figuring that was the safest place until she could get into the seat, and took his hand when she was ready. “It’s like, mounting a horse, right?” She laughed, feeling like mounting a horse was easier.

Silas smiled and held out his hand for her to take, "yeah, except the truck tends to be a bit steadier." He joked, it didn't have to shift from hoof to hoof to adjust to weight, sure the truck creaked and dipped a little but it wouldn't try to run off. "Just make sure to grab the handle up top when you climb in, it'll help support you so you can swing in."
