Jessie felt a little flutter when he remembered, but who could forget? “Yeah, I’m kind of obsessed with that,” But she didn’t want it to be. “And Halloween,” She rattled off quickly as she followed him to a spot to eat the funnel cake, still worried she’d be one of those crazy detectives, “And movies. I love movies.” She watched other movies, but her usual rewatches were always horror. She forced herself to stop talking when they stopped, feeling like the spot got quieter somehow, as if they stepped away from everyone around them. “Ferdinand?” She asked, tilting her head to the side. “You mean, the book? The kids book?” She didn’t know there was a movie, but she streamed everything so there weren’t any adds to see.

"Right." Jake nodded, not surprised by that, he liked Halloween too but for his sake it was more because he liked candy and being able to run around like an idiot with his brother, which...now thinking of it wasn't as different as most days. "I would ask what movies are your favorite but I think I can guess what they are," he teased, taking a fork from her and cutting off a piece of the funnel cake, popping it into his mouth and nodding. "Yup," he said after swallowing, "just as delicious as I thought it would be." He said, about to take another piece when she talked about Ferdinand being a kids book, frowning slightly. "There's a book? I remember the old cartoon but not a book."

Jessie narrowed her eyes at him, sticking her tongue out at him in the process, “You would be correct,” She couldn’t help but admit it, there was no hiding it. She took a bite of the funnel cake, sniffed it, before tentatively taking a bite. She mulled over the taste, finding it alright, but she liked the chocolate part the best. She narrowed her eyes again, “Describe hat your movies about.” She asked, wondering if they were thinking of different things.

Jake chuckled, flashing her an innocent smile as he ate some more of the funnel cake, watching for her reaction. "You don't seem to be like that big of a fan," he said with a slight frown but he wouldn't be too upset if she didn't like it. It wouldn't be too hard to get another. "Describe what it's about?" He repeated, "well it's about a big bull named Ferdinand who wants to smell the flowers instead of do bull fighting."

“It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but I’m still craving just the melted chocolate,” Jessie knew nothing could beat that in her opinion. “But I’m still going to eat this one because it’s good.’ She added, taking a large bite, and not even apologizing for it. “Yes! That’s the children’s book too!” She was shocked to find it was a movie, “Why is it your favorite?” She asked, finding it funny but cute that he liked the movie. He seemed so wholesome next to her favorite slasher movie.

Jake chuckled, finding it cute how she tried to overemphasized that she was going to eat it. Taking his fork he scraped over the chocolate sauce from his side of the funnel cake onto hers. "Oh, I had no idea it was a book," he replied, wondering if he'd be able to find it but it wasn't like her really needed it or anything. "It's my favorite because it kind of shows not to judge a book by its cover...or force someone into being the idea of what people think they should be. Plus it's funny." He smiled.

Jessie watched as he scooped up the chocolate and poured it over on her side of the plate and her chest did something weird. She couldn’t stop her lips curling into a smile, as she dug into another piece. “My mom used to read it to me, when I was younger.” She hadn’t thought about that book in ages, wondering just how good the movie could be. “So, that means you aren’t this harden cowboy that rides bulls to feel joy?” she teased.

Jake lifted his fork to his mouth, sucking off the little bit of chocolate as he spoke. "You got me," he joked, "just don't go around telling people, I have a reputation to uphold." He joked though she might have been a bit close to hitting the nail on the head. Sometimes it felt like it was hard to reach the emotion of joy, not when he still held so much guilt.

Jessie stared a little as he sucked off his fork, wondering if she was letting her imagination wander a little far with its thoughts. She shook the image she had in her head, though the evidence that it happened stained her cheeks. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone,” She said, though thought this was a chance to blackmail him, even if she did it as a joke. She pulled out her phone and added the not about his favorite movie into the notes.

Jake didn't notice her staring as he ate another bite of funnel cake. "Better not," he teased, not thinking that she would tell anyone, but then again he didn't know her all that well yet. He looked at her phone then back at the rest of the fair. "I think we can get in a ride or two before I have to get into the arena."

Jessie perked up at the thought of a ride. “Haunted house, followed by the Ferris Wheel.” She announced, putting her fork down and wiping her mouth, though she grabbed her purse and started searching through it for her makeup, oblivious to the fact that her sweater wasn’t in the way. She applied a fresh foundation of lipstick with ease.

Jake chuckled, "alright, lets go get in line then." he said, taking her garbage and tossing it in the trash while she fixed up her make up. He turned back to her and smiled, "hopefully our pigeon doesn't get too scared." He joked, starting to walk towards the haunted house ride but didn't move too quickly, not wanting to lose her in the crowd.

Jessie looked towards the pigeon he had tucked away, “He can hid out in my purse if need be,” She suggested as they stepped into line, Jessie was a little distracted at how terrible the ride looked, “Sorry if this is – “ She didn’t get a chance to finish the sentence, as she tripped over her on feet, stumbling into Jake.

Jake chuckled, turning to respond when she was falling forward. His eyes widened a little and he reached out, catching her in his arms as she fell against his chest. "You okay?" He pulled his head back a little to see her.

Jessie closed her eyes as she held out her hands for the inevitable fall to the ground, though she felt Jakee’s arms catch her before she could, holding her up as she straightened herself. She knew her face was red, and she tried to ignore the looks and whispers about her fall. It was better gossip than her mother’s murder. “Yeah. Just a bruised ego. Not used to boots like this I guess,” She looked down at her boots, feeling like she did fit them well, but she was clumsy, so it was probably just her. “I hope I look okay. I probably stick out thought.” She couldn’t help admitting, remembering how Cordelia hyped her outfit up.

Jake didn't let go until he was sure Jessie was stable on her feet, looking her over once to make sure she was okay before taking a step back. A frown crossed his face when she spoke about her outfit, shaking his head. "I think you look great and if you haven't noticed, there are plenty of buckle bunnies strutting around in crazier outfits." He joked, knowing his brother would be making passes at a few while they were here.

Jessie didn’t want to point out that she’d been watching the other girls at the rodeo, and she was shocked by what they would wear. It seemed there were a lot of buckle bunnies despite what that title meant. “I was hoping I wouldn’t come across as a buckle bunny, though this isn’t exactly hat I would wear normally.” But it was fun, like wearing a costume to a party, even if it wasn’t supposed to be.

Jake tilted his head, "I don't think you look too much like one," he said, granted 'real country girls' would claim to never dress like she did but everyone had their own style and he didn't really care much about who wore what...though Jessie did look really nice in her current outfit. "Well, I think you look good and that you can pull off the hat." He smiled.

Jessie smiled big when he said she looked good, trying not to take it too heart, knowing he was being nice. “Thank you, you look nice too.” She said, figuring she could at least return the compliment. “Even if you and your brother look like Walker Texas Rangers twin sons.” She teased, smirking as she hid behind her hands to laugh.

Jake was about to thank her for her compliment when she went on to compare him and Reed to Walker Texas Ranger. He looked down at himself then at her, "wow, that really hurt, I think I'm gonna go cry now." He frowned at her, turning as if he was going to walk away.

Jessie gasped slightly, her eyes widen at him saying he was hurt by what she said, “I’m sorry.” She admitted behind her hand. She was still trying not to laugh, because the two of them could possibly have a spinoff show with those outfits. “It’s really nice, I like blue.” It was close enough to black that she didn’t hate it. She reached out to stop him from turning away, but hesitated, her hand out reached towards him, having a feeling he was going to turn around and joke along with her.

Jake tried no to laugh, feeling a little bad for poking fun at her. He turned around, looking down at her hand that was stretched towards him. "Is it?" He joked, pulling a little at his shirt, "back in the day our mom would make us match for this shit." He grimaced, glad those days were long over but knew if their mom had the choice that they'd still be matching to this day, the twins only giving in during the holidays. "Because I don't think I can live up to Walker Texas Ranger status."

Jessie quickly pulled her hand back behind her, as if she was a well behaved child that wasn’t putting her hand in the cookie jar, “Blue is very nice on you, and from what you’ve said of your brother, red seems to match him well enough,” she pulled out her phone once again to add these to her notes; Jake matches with blue and Reed with red. She didn’t have Reeds number, but he had a little note under Jakes phone number. “Why not? You seem like an outstanding citizen who could defend and fight for others.” She didn’t remember much of the show, only that her babysitter liked watching it while she was little.

Jake paused, looking down at himself, unsure what to say. "Oh, thanks." He rubbed the back of his neck but looked at her again as they moved up in line. "I guess but I'm not all old school, or at least I don't think so." He said, adjusting his hat on his head and stepping up when it was their turn but stopped, holding out his hand so that she could get on the ride first.

Jessie was going to tell him she didn’t think he had to be old school to be as cool as Walker, but they found themselves at the front of the line and ushered into the cart. She looked down at the hand he offered before taking it, stepping down into the cart, and scooted all the way to the end to make room for him. “This is probably some cheesy haunted ride from like, the seventies.” She joked, wondering if they’d have the basic animatronics you could buy at Party City during Halloween.

Once she was seated Jake took the spot next to her, shrugged his shoulders. "Well at least if it's not scary it'll be funny." He offered, looking around curiously as the cart started to go along the rails of the ride.

Jessie shivered with excitement, hoping for scary, never feeling scared in any haunted house. She knew none of it was real, and even the actors couldn’t actually harm you, so what was so scary? The cart started moving down the track and she watched as the double doors before them opened into darkness. “Even if it’s bad, pretend to be.” She whispered to him as the doors closed behind them and they couldn’t see anything at all. For a second, she was actually scared, wondering if the ride broke down until a light flashed on to show a coffin, which of course, a vampire popped out. ‘A cheesy haunted house after all’. She thought and moved away from the coffin, leaning into Jake as she covered her face with her hands, “Gasp!” she said loudly, then couldn’t help but laugh at how dumb she sounded just pretending to be scared.

Jake looked over at her and chuckled, "okay." He looked up as they made their way through the ride, feeling a little silly but didn't stop himself from pretending to be scared, throwing his hands up and yelling as if the strobe lights and fake clowns were really scaring him.

“Sorry, I know it’s stupid.” Jessie felt her cheeks flush hot, and she was glad that it was dark inside the place as another jump scare tried and failed not to be obvious. This time it came from Jakes’ side of the cart, and she ended up hiding behind his shoulder, just peeking out past him, and faking a shiver.

Jake laughed, looking back at Jessie, "no, I think it's funny." He told her, throwing a hand to his chest and gasping as something else jumped out at them and throwing his free hand out as if he were protecting her.
