Jessie laughed, feeling her insides squirm a little, unsure what that was about she turned to stare straight ahead, waiting for the next jump scare, thinking for sure she’d spot it from a mile away. “How do you feel about a real haunted house?” She asked, partially wishing this was scary than it was, but Jake was making it fun, she wouldn’t change a thing.

Jake settled back in his seat, looking around as he waited for something else to leap at them. "Oh, probably not my cup of tea," he admitted, "it's one thing to go along with this stuff and watch shows and everything but it's another to actually, ah, poke the bear in terms of spirits." He told her, sure she'd think he was silly or lose whatever interest she had in him but he wasn't going to lie.

Jessie stared at Jake as he talked about a real haunted house, she was sure of it. Not that she as complaining really, she’d go to a real haunted house too, but it seems that Jake wouldn’t. She was still stunned that she didn’t react to the next jump scare. “I kind of meant like, one of these kind of haunted houses… But actually scary.” Of course it depended on your definition of scary.

Jake looked back at Jessie, a bit of panic running up his neck when she didn't respond. Had he fucked up that badly? "Oh." He was suddenly thankful for the dark, sure his face was bright red. "Uh...in that case yeah, I might try one." he admitted, though he'd probably hate it.

Jessie chuckled, “You thought I meant a real haunted house?” She asked, wondering if he was thinking of the nearby abandoned estate, something she had already studied up on when she found out where they were moving to. “Don’t worry, now I know not to drag you along on my ghost hunting tours.” She joked.

"I, uh, yeah, I did." Jake admitted, hoping she wouldn't get upset with him for assuming that but apparently she didn't. He half smiled, breathing a sigh of relief. "Okay, I mean, I would be there for moral support but...on the outside, I'm not about risking possession."

Jessie giggled, “Outside support is always nice, I’ve heard ghosts sometimes like to walk the property.” She teased as they came out of the haunted ride and the cart came to a stop at the exit. “I’m sure they have garden parties and take care of the lawn during the night.” She continued to joke as she stepped out of the cart and headed down the exit. “Ferris Wheel?” she asked, pointing to the line for the ride. "Promise its the last one I'll force you on." she teased.

"You know...now that I think about it, I think I will support you from back in my dorm room, or at least from my truck." He joked and followed her out of the cart. He looked around as they left the ride and nodded, chuckling. "Ferris Wheel sounds good and I'm not being forced, I'm a bit too stubborn to be made to do anything." Now if he was sweet talked or showed some puppy dog eyes that would be a different story.

Jessie laughed, patting his arm in a gentle comforting, pitiful way. “It’s okay, at least one of us would survive in a horror movie.” She headed down the line for the Ferris Wheel, looking up at the height of it. She wasn’t scared of heights, but the wind and the creaking sound was a little off putting. She wouldn’t back down though, loving the way it felt at the top, even if it was just two seconds.

"I guess so." Jake looked over at her with a slight smile before following her to the line. He looked up at the wheel, tilting his head. The way it seemed to groan was a little intimidating but he tried to reason with himself that he had nothing to worry about. "Now don't get scared on this." He teased as they moved up in line.

Jessie looked up at the Ferris Wheel and wondered if they should try a different ride, “If I do, it’ll be worth it.” She said as they reached the front of the line and were motioned to sit in the little two-person bucket with just a bar to keep them from falling out. She took a seat and leaned back, but it was a tight fit with Jake sitting next to her.

"Whatever you say." Jake chuckled, letting Jessie sit first before fitting in next to her. "Hopefully our hats don't blow away." He joked as the bar was closed in front of them and latched. He was planning on playing it cool but the second the cart moved and jolted he grabbed onto the bar with one hand.

Jessie looked up at her hat and pulled it off, tucking it between her legs and the seat before they took off. That first swing as they ascended was a little unnerving, the seat swaying a lot, and she couldn’t help but grab onto something. That something was Jakes hand on the bar, when she realized it was his hand, she pulled away quickly, “Sorry... Wasn’t expecting the swing to be so… Scary.” She laughed, but it was a scared nervous laugh that she hoped would lighten her mood about the swaying seat.

Jake kept his hat on, feeling confident in its fit. He looked ahead as their cart jerked, jaw clenching slightly but when he felt her hand on his he looked over, relaxing slightly and offering her a smile. "It's okay, it was a bit startling." He told her gently.

Jessie sighed with relief she didn’t know she had been holding, and leaned onto the safety bar, watching the fair, the people, and the lights slowly disappearing until it was just the view before them. “My mom took me on my first Ferris Wheel ride on one just like this, When I was four. I don’t remember it, but I have a picture of it.” She felt sad about it, but she couldn’t stop from smiling, knowing anytime there was a Ferris Wheel, her mom always took anyone who wanted to go on it.

Jake smiled softly and nodded, "my moms afraid of heights so it was my dads job to do the rides with me and Reed." He chuckled, glad that his parents had endured the long days and still let him and his brother run rampant.

Jessie felt a slight twinge of jealousy at Jake, it didn’t last long, she knew it wasn’t his fault he had a mom and she didn’t. It didn’t stop jealousy from showing in her mind though, but she easily pushed it to the depths at the back of her brain. “Heights are scary, but sometimes the swaying makes it a little scary, shivering slightly as they hit the top and started going back down.

"Yeah, the swaying definitely doesn't help." Jake frowned a little but as they swayed again, this time feeling like they were almost going to flip all the way backwards but luckily they didn't, though his grip did tighten a bit on the bar in front of them. "It's a nice view though." He said, trying to distract from that.

Jessie sat back quickly when the cart seemed to sway way too much and watched as the view was replaced with the inner workings of the ride. “The view from the top is always my favorite, though this one isn’t all that tall.” She liked the ones in big cities that towered over everything and you could see for what felt like miles. “When is your event tonight?” She asked, wondering if she’d have time to grab a snack and a drink before he was out in the ring.

Jake looked over at Jessie, the side of his hand brushing against hers in an attempt at comfort. "Well the rodeo starts at five, but I think bull riding will start at about seven, they usually save bull riding for last. Because we're the best." He joked, winking at her.

Jessie smirked, rolling her eyes at how important bull riding was, but quickly turned away when he winked at her, feeling her body grow a little warm despite it being a little chilly. “I think barrel racing is kind of cool, and calf roping?” she shrugged her shoulders, thinking about all the events she had researched about while researching bull riding and rodeos to be able to watch without wondering what was going on. She was also worried about him riding a bull, but researching had helped a little, didn’t stop the fear.

"I'll make sure to tell my cousin you think calf roping is cool." Jake teased, knowing Sam wouldn't care if there was a million people in the stands watching him or none while he worked. "Barrel racing is pretty thrilling though." He added as their cart came to a stop and the rail was opened for them to get out. Jake playfully gestured to her, "ladies first."

“Your cousin is here too?” Jessie asked, finding it funny that she also had her cousin here at Mountain Ridge. They’d been raised together as if they were siblings, she was just glad she could be here for him at school since he was still struggling with being a mute. “Out of every event I think I could handle, tackling a sheep with the kids.” She giggled before stepping off the ride, pulling her phone out to note the time, which was fifteen minutes before five.

"Yup, he's kind of the stoic type." He warned her, figuring she'd eventually meet Sa since she'd already got to experience Reed. "Oh, you talking about mutton busting?" He chuckled as he walked off the ride with her, "we used to do that, of course." He joked then saw the time, frowning slightly. "Ah shit, I should probably head into the arena to get ready."

“Sounds like the life of the party,” Jessie teased as she looked around the fair, wondering if she could grab a snack from here before finding a seat inside for the rodeo. “Yeah, that thing. I probably wouldn’t win, but I could take on a sheep.” She joked, holding up her arm like she had muscles to show off. She pouted a little bit, “Alright, I hope you win. Or at least don’t injure yourself.” She gently punched his arm, hoping he’d understand she wasn’t wanting to see that happen to him.

"Oh yeah." Jake laughed, shaking his head. The only person Sam seemed to come alive around was Reign, and at least she was here now. He looked down at her arm and gasped as if he was impressed, "wow, look at those muscles." He teased, looking down as she gave him a little punch and smiled. "I'll do my best." He told her, not wanting to promise anything since the moment he was in that ring anything could happen. "I'll see you after." He tipped his hat to her before turning around and heading into the arena.

Jessie waved as he rushed off, watching him disappear into the crowd before meandering through the fair, finding a stall with Nachos. Once she had her nachos, a drink, and a churro, she headed into the rodeo. It had already started, but she was only there to watch Jake, so it didn’t matter that she missed some of the other events. She sat down and ate, watching the current event which was barrel racing.

Jake roamed the back of the arena, stretching his arms over his head until he found his brother and cousin, clapping the two on the back and sticking with them until it was their turns. He watched, arms now crossed as each of them competed, a grin crossing his face as they pulled good numbers...that pulled them into the winning slot of their competitions. He congratulated both of them, feeling pride swell in his chest but then that turned into pressure to do his best and swing for a win to complete the trio. As the bull riders started to compete he tried not to watch, not wanting to psyching himself out until it was his turn to compete.
"You got this." Sam said softly to Jake, reaching out and squeezing Jakes shoulder.
"Of course he does," Reed grinned, "you're gonna kick some ass." He patted Jakes back as Jake walked away, climbing onto the side of the pen and getting on the bull, taking a deep breath before the animal was released and he was thrown into blinding lights. His jaw clenched as he held on, keeping one hand in the air as he held on with all of his might, time seeming to drag. He wished he could stop and look out at the arena, as if he could see Jessie watching him, but it was impossible. When the buzzer finally went off. He was about to let go when the bull suddenly let out one last hard back, sending Jake tumbling off.
He scrambled up as quick as he could, running and launching himself onto the fence as the bull charged for him, pulling away at the last second as Jake flipped onto the safe side of the fence, his heart racing with adrenaline. He scrambled to his feet as Sam and Reed ran to him, laughing as they held him up, staying with him until the winner was announced.
Jake threw his shaking hands in the air when his name was called as the winner of the competition, finding it hard to stop from smiling but congratulated the other competitors until they went off in their separate directions. Jake, Reed, and Sam collected their winning buckles then checked on their animals, ensuring they were alright before head out from the arena and onto the fair grounds.

Jessie recognized Reed’s name, seeing as his picture on the big screen looked similar to Jakes, but she noticed a few differences. The biggest difference was the fact that Reed had green eyes, and Jake had blue. She cheered them all as she finished her nachos and started just chewing on the straw of her drink. It wasn’t long till she heard Jakes name called and sat up a little straighter, spotting him take a seat on the bull, the pigeon sitting on her lap. Her heart started racing and her eyes never left him as the bull carried all around the arena until it finally kicked him off. She gasped, standing along with the crowd around her to watch what would happen, her praying she wasn’t about to witness Jake injure himself. As the crowd held their breath, Jake was able to scramble over the fence in time, and Jessie heard the sigh of relief before the celebration started from the entire place. Once the rodeo was finished she sat and waited for the place to be completely emptied before heading out into the fairgrounds, which was more crowded than before the rodeo.

Jake looked around the fair grounds, searching for Jessie but everyone seemed to blur together. He frowned a little, about to resort to yelling Jessie's name when Sam tapped his shoulders and pointed.
"That here?" He asked, spotting someone who looked like the person his cousin had described.
"Only one way to find out," Reed grinned and before Jake could do anything cupped his hands around his mouth to make it louder as he yelled: "JESSIE!"
