Jessie stepped off the bus at her stop and looked around, checking her phone for directions, happy to find that the rodeo wasn’t that far of a walk. As she neared the location, she could hear the sounds of a fair going on, the smells of food, and the lights of attractions came into view. She sent a text to Jake, asking him where he was as she entered what had to be the fairgrounds, and received information on how to find him. Somewhere in this fair was Jake and she was going to pelt him with the pigeon she’d gotten online after their first meeting. Several minutes later, she spotted him, at least at first it was the back of his head, but she was pretty confident it was him, especially when he turned his head. She smirked, took aim, and threw it, hitting him at the back of his neck, a note attached to it that read ‘Behind you!’ she hoped he found it funny, especially since they had talked about using carrier pigeons.

"Okay, why do we always have to argue about the best funnel cake topping every rodeo?" Jake groaned, shaking his head at his brother as they meandered around the fair grounds, keeping his eyes peeled for Jessie. He was still finding it hard to believe that she would actually come but she had texted and it was hard not to smile-even with his brother bent on arguing. "Because you refuse to accept that strawberry is-OW! What the fuck?!" Reed whipped around with something smashed right into his head, knocking his hat on the ground. He looked for the person who had thrown whatever that damn thing was at his head, finally spotting a girl staring at him and his brother and looking rather like a deer in the head lights. Jake jumped back in surprise, about to ask the same as his brother as he picked up Reeds hat then spotted the pigeon. He picked it up, reading the note and couldn't stop himself from grinning as he turned around, spotting the girl he had been looking for. "Nice shot! Wrong brother though." Jessie was pretty proud of her throw, until the person she thought was Jake turned and it wasn’t him. It looked like him though, and she couldn’t help but stare, now noticing a few differences. When Jake finally made his presence known, she narrowed her eyes in question, tilting her head as she looked the two over. “Twins. Didn’t realize…” she said a little awkwardly, feeling her cheeks flush a little, wondering how she could have missed this, but it kind of made sense when she thought she saw Jake on campus and he didn’t say anything to her. “Sorry, about that.” She grimaced as she walked up to the two of them, extending her hand to Reed first. “Jessie.”

Reed looked between Jessie and Jake, his brows furrowed as he wondered what the fuck was going on until it clicked, a wicked grin crossing his face. "Ah, so you're Jessie," he said and shook her head, "I'm Reed, obviously my brother either told you nothing about me or too much to have you nail me like that." He joked, eyeing his brother from the side.
Jake shot Reed a glare, as if daring him to say something before turning his attention to Jessie as he brushed some dirt off the pigeon. "It's good to see you."

“Well,” Jessie wondered in the small amount she and Jake had texted counted as a lot of time to spend together and was it enough time to mention you are a twin, and here’s my brother. No matter, she’d just add that little note to her phone and keep a close eye. “Nope, never heard of you. Discussion of siblings hasn’t…. Come up.” She realized she was glad of that for the moment, wondering how Jake would take the news of her sibling and mother, murdered in their own home. She smiled at Jake, looking over his face to remember little bits that would set him apart from Reed. “Good to see you too. Sorry I’m late.”

Reed looked at his brother in mock shock, pressing a hand to his chest, "you haven't talked about me? What? You afraid I'm gonna steal her away from you?" He grinned, ducking down as Jake went to smack the back of his head.
"No, because you like girls who want to knock your teeth in." Jake glared at his brother before looking at Jessie, his smile returning. "It's okay, I'm just glad you made it."
Reed made a face as if he was going to gag, "God you're lame, you do whatever, I need a funnel cake." He shook his head, turning away from Jake and Jessie and heading off into the crowd.
Jake looked after Reed with a bit of worry in his eyes but shook his head. "Sorry about him, I'm pretty sure he was dropped on his head."

Jessie stood there in shock as the two of them argued, part of her wondering if Jake liked her more than a friend though that wasn’t possible since they met. Part of her wondered if he was right about his brother and choice in women. She felt a smile grow on her puzzled face when he smiled, “Of course, I said I would,” She wasn’t about to break a promise she made. She watched Reed walk off, wondering if the two always acted this way, though chuckled at Jakes joke. “Don’t worry, I think I’m still in shock that you’re a twin.” They didn’t look that identical now that she had a closer look at the two, but from far away it was hard to tell.

"Well yeah but a lot of people say things without meaning it." Jake told her, looking down at the pigeon, unable to stop himself from laughing, "where did you even get this?" He asked, looking back up at her. "Oh yeah, if you couldn't tell Reed is the younger one," he joked, giving her a sheepish smile. "Sorry for not really telling you, I kind of forget it's not a regular thing."

Jessie knew that much was true, her so called friends had said they would always be there for her, and they hadn’t even so much as said one word to her since her father was arrested. “I know what you mean,” She didn’t even understand why they hadn’t come to her even after her dad wasn’t convicted, as if they thought it was true that he killed her. She smiled big when he asked about the pigeon, “Took a lot of researching… On Amazon.” It took two seconds to search and buy the thing, it took her most of the bus ride to attach the note somehow. She shrugged, smirking when he called Reed the baby, “I wouldn’t tell people either, what a great way to get out of shit.” She giggled, imagining her and her twin causing chaos.

Jake chuckled and nodded, "so does this mean I'm the pigeons guardian now?" He joked, "next time I see you then you can get him." He added, thinking it might be kind of funny if they made that a thing. He chuckled, shaking his head, "yeah, I think if I tried swapping places with my brother it would end up causing me more problems than it's worth. Reed is kind of...a loose cannon." He joked.

“If you want, I don’t mind keeping him either,” Jessie had grown slightly attached to the pigeon, even going as far as to name him Bundy, since she was reading a book about him. She giggled, nodding in agreement, “I agree to these terms. Will there be a note attached?” She asked, thinking there was a slight chance he’d even forget about the bird, so a note would be unexpected. She chuckled, “Worse for who? You?” She teased, knowing that was probably cause.

"I think we could share custody." Reed smiled, "but I think you'll have to hold onto him when I compete." He told her, feeling a little flutter of nerves at the idea of someone other than a family member watching him who mattered just a bit more than the average spectator. He'd definitely have to focus a bit more on doing well and hoping he wouldn't make a fool of himself. "I think I could manage to attach a note too, but I promise not to hit anyone you know in the head when I give him back." He teased, a grin crossing his face. "For me, definitely." He joked and held out his free hand to her, "you want to check out the fair before I have to get into the arena?"

“You don’t have a place for him to live while you work!” Jessie fake gasped, placing a hand over her mouth as if she was really shocked by this. She would have continued the joke, but she could stop her lips from curling into a smile. It was nice not to worry about people knowing who she was here, even if her old town was only two hours away. “I’d love to watch him, I’ll hold him up so he can watch.” She teased, knowing people would find her odd, if they didn’t already with her outfit. She stuck her tongue out at him, “I don’t have a twin for you to get confused with,” She told him, though she and Cordelia might be confused with their hair color. “Uh yes please, you and your brother were talking about funnel cakes.”

"Sorry, I wasn't prepared for fatherhood." Jake laughed and unbuttoned one of the pockets on his shirt, putting the pigeon inside it, "but i guess he can stay in here for the time being." He continued to laugh at the image of her holding the pigeon up to watch him bull ride that popped into his head. "That sounds like a great plan," he agreed then turned to the rest of the fair grounds, "do you want to go get one?"

Jessie felt her cheeks flush just slightly, “Well, that’s what you get when you’re unprepared,” She teased, raising an eyebrow as he stuffed the bird into his shirt. “You know, I could put him in my purse?” She giggled, wondering if she really wanted to do that. “I would love one, on one condition. What’s the best topping?” she asked with a smirk.

"Next time I'll remember to bring a front pack." Jake joked, looking down at the pigeon then at her, shrugging, "he's under my care now and he fits fine in here." He chuckled, reaching up and patting the pocket where the pigeon was. "The best topping," he told her with a grin, "is cinnamon sugar with chocolate." He said, thinking the fruity syrups they offered were way too sweet, like piercing sweet with a bitter after taste.

Jessie shrugged, if he wanted to keep the pigeon in his shirt, she could claim she didn’t know him if someone thought he was weird for it. She sucked in a breath at the topping, “I haven’t tried that topping, but hot fudge is pretty good.” She didn’t know cinnamon sugar was an option, but she wasn’t a fan of the fruit ones because they all tasted fake or days old fruit.

Jake nodded, "hot fudge is great but combining that with cinnamon sugar makes it way better." He told her, starting to walk to where the food stands are, but tried not get too ahead of her, it could be easy to lose someone in the crowd. "So...how have you been?" He asked.

“Well, I don’t mind trying this combination,” Jessie liked sweets and since childhood she had a terrible sweet tooth. “But if it’s terrible, I’m going to have to take full custody of our Pigeon.” She teased, a smirk curling at one end of her lips. She looked around the fair, watching the rides, seeing the carnival games, and wondered if he did any of that, or if he as mainly a fair foods kind of guy. “I’ve been good, no complaints here.” She didn’t have anything to complain about now that her dad and her weren’t glared at.

Jake laughed, his head tilting back slightly. "Alright, I'll agree to that." He chuckled, looking over at her. "If you want to do anything besides eat let me know, I only have a little over an hour before I have to go get ready to compete but afterwards I'm up for anything." He offered, assuming he didn't get hurt on the bull, which was obviously always a possibility. He joined the line for the funnel cake and turned to her, "that's good, history is already kicking my ass."

“Well, are you brave enough to ride a ride?” Jessie asked, wanting to ride the stupid little haunted mansion, always laughing more than being scared, but it was still kind of fun to pretend. She also liked riding the Ferris Wheel, seeing the lights of the fair, of the stars. She didn’t like death all the time, but a bad time to notice would be her knack for history. She really only cared about one part about it really, but it was easy to just through in other facts in between. She could easily remember if there as an interesting case the same year or month. “Oh no… I’m not the biggest fan of history either,” which technically wasn’t a lie. She couldn’t help but look away as they stepped into line. “Do you have a favorite subject? That… Sounds so depressing to ask.” She shook her head, chuckling at the thought of asking about school of all things.

"I ride a pissed off 1,500 monster that wants to kill me, I think I'm brave enough to try a ride." He chuckled, though he did wonder about how safe these rides really were, considering how they were constantly taken apart and reassembled in fields but people who hopefully knew what they were doing. "All the different dates get confusing," he told her as they moved up in line, chuckling at her question. "My more depressing answer is yes...math."

Jessie shivered at the thought of watching him do that, wondering if she’d be too scared to watch, but she knew she’d seen darker things. “Sweet, I love rides!” She giggled, already making a list in her mind of all the rides she hoped were set up here. “I know they say they are totally dangerous to ride, but that just adds to the thrill,” She admitted, feeling a little tingle run through her chest. She bit her lower lip to keep it to herself about knowing dates well and then he said his favorite subject is math. “Really? I don’t understand math well.” She had never got that click of how easy math should be, it got even more confusing when they added letters and more rules.

Jake chuckled softly, not surprised that she wasn't at least somewhat worried about the rides construction. "I guess it does." He agreed, knowing the thrill was what kept getting him back in the arena. Besides, if he did get hurt it would at least be like karma getting back at him for Reed. "I guess I'm lucky, math always seems to click for me." He said with a slight shrug, "do you have a favorite subject?"

“So, Ferris Wheel is a must, that little twisty thing that goes around and around is one of my favorites. A haunted house, even if it’s a little cheesy.” She listed off the ones she’d like to do, wondering if he had any he’d like to add to the list. “I like English, and Science.” Those were her favorites, mostly because she enjoyed the science part of the investigation as much as collecting evidence. “Unfortunately, math is a foreign language to me.” She chuckled nervously, though she wasn’t sure why, feeling a little flicker in her chest as they stepped up to the window to order their funnel cakes.

Jake nodded at each ride she listed, seeing that he was definitely in for it but he didn't mind. He kind of liked that she was more of the adventurous type. ""English and Science, I'm okay with English and Science is kind of fifty fifty." He chuckled, knowing if he studied more he would do okay grade wise. "I think I do good with math because it's all about following formulas," he shrugged, knowing it made him sound like a bit of a nerd, but he liked being able to plug different numbers into equations and being able to solve them and for him it always seemed to work out. He looked from her to the person behind the counter at the stand, flashing a smile as he ordered a funnel cake, sticking to just getting one, seeing they were big enough for them to share. Once he paid he stepped off to the side to wait.

Jessie stepped off to the side with him, making a face, “Can’t believe we are talking about school, how lame is that.” She teased with a smirk and a fake roll of her eyes, though she felt a little nervous about hanging out with him finally after just texting for a while. “Whats your favorite movie?” She asked, working on changing the subject to something more fun.

"Well, I mean, we do go to school so it's bound to be brought up eventually." Jake chuckled, not minding the talk but did find how she was acting kind of cute. "Favorite movie?" He repeated with a slight frown, unsure if he should tell her the honest truth or not. "If I tell you, you'll laugh at me." He finally said, tucking his hands into his pockets.

“True, but I don’t want school to be my entire life, I already have something that does,” Jessie teased, knowing she had been teased bfor for being a little too into Halloween, or horror, or true crime. She grabbed a bunch of napkins and two forks when she heard their funnel cake was ready, feeling her stomach grumble slightly. She raised an eyebrow in question when he said not to laugh at him, “I can’t promise fully, but I’ll try my best.” She chuckled, though she had trouble picking her favorite movie, she couldn’t help but be curious as to what his favorite was.

"And that's the true crime stuff, right?" Jake asked, thinking back to their other conversations. Jake walked over and got their funnel cake, carrying it back over to Jessie and looking around, spotting a vacant area for them to stand and moved over to it, glad that it was just a bit quieter. "Okay, well, my favorite movie is Ferdinand." He said with a slight smile, feeling like it wasn't that much of a surprise.
